Abstract
People can be very complex individuals and sometimes turn out to be better or worse then what others expect. A lot of people wouldn’t think that an intelligent person that has a promising future would become a criminal. It does happen though and one person who has proven this has the name of Ted Kaczynski. My paper will be overviewing Ted Kaczynski’s life and then I will be breaking down what type of criminal he was.

Introduction
When you think of criminals a lot of people don’t really look into why they commit a crime. Normally people assume that they are just bad people and sometimes that is the case. In the case of Ted Kaczynski, I feel as though it goes deeper then him just being a bad person. I believe that people normally don’t do something without having a reason. Sometimes the reason might be unknown even to the person committing the crime but most of the time there are factors that lead to ones actions.

It surprises me how such an intelligent person can go from being an Assistant Professor at a University to a bomber. This paper gave multiple theories that Ted goes under. I can see how a person who has the personality of wanting to be so alone could hurt themselves by being so isolated. The that could of helped the issues that Ted Kaczynski had would be his parents and family therapy. The reason I say his parents is because they noticed he had this personality and when they first saw it when he was younger they should have slowly helped him socialize with people. If they weren’t good at it either they could of gotten someone to help him with this problem. Family therapy could have possibly made Ted want a closer relationship with his family. Over the years, there have been many criminals who have eluded the authorities, but very few have been able to avoid them for as long as the infamous Unabomber did. For 17 years the Unabomer was able to reek his havoc without getting caught.

He also began shoplifting for expensive items and told his mom that they were gifts. He was picked up at least twice by juvenile authorities on suspicion of auto theft and burglary, but nothing came of it. While Ted was on death row, he once told an interviewer that he knew he was different from other people. He was quoted as having trouble knowing what appropriate social behaviors were. His own needs and desires were all that mattered.
Unabomber. Ask anyone under the age of 30 and very few will know who he is. Ask anyone over the age of 40 and watch as fear dashes across their body. Ted Kaczynski otherwise known as the Unabomber is a white American male who is infamous for mailing bombs to what would seem to be random people bombs across the country. He is widely known as one of the most feared and creative serial killers in American history.
Wanting to understand and be involved with putting the right criminal behind bars has always been a passion. Getting a better understanding of the criminal justice system explained how innocent can be convicted. During, this learning process it has been obvious that there are new and lethal forms of criminality, which can range from international terrorism to transnational syndicates.
Why would someone be so embarrassed of their son that they have to disown them, maybe because he was born out of wedlock, to Eleanor Cowell, though she attempted to give him a good life by giving him to her parents? Also, with the theory of the X or Y model you could say that Bundy could have had an extra X chromosome since he was a person who lived a life of crime and had an uncontrollable urge to keep killing, but you can’t exactly confirm that the theory is right since it’s never been proven to be 100% true, hence the term to why its called a theory. Ted Bundy was a a distributed man who had such a promising future and could have had it all, but something messed this man up so badly that he had to go on a rampage of killings and find joy in it. A man who thought he was going to get away with it all got what he deserved.

Throughout history, America has been the home of serial killers, with more than 2,000 throughout history. In this country, America has encountered many different kinds of these sick people. One of the most infamous serial killers throughout American History was Theodore Robert Bundy, also known as Ted Bundy. On November 24, 1946, in Burlington, Vermont, Theodore Robert Bundy was born. When people think of serial killers, they usually see a dirty, insane looking person that would stand out from the average person. In Bundy’s case it was very different. Ted was a very smart individual who had attended 5 different colleges throughout the United States, studying law and eventually getting his degree in psychology at the University of Washington. Bundy was a very handsome and charming man, unlike most other serial killers. Looking helpless and using his good looks, Bundy was able to lure his victims and would knock them unconscious with an object such as a crowbar or a pipe, then would handcuff them inside his car. Once the victims were under his control he would then proceed in kidnapping, raping, sodomizing, and eventually killing them in very harsh ways. Throughout the 70’s, he raped and murdered young women all across the country. Bundy was said to be connected to at least 36 murders, and suspected to have committed one hundred or more.
He was an extrovert and that was why he needed to kill and rape multiple women not just one. He says it was not his family’s fault he was like this and that is true but somewhere in his DNA caused him to do these crazy things. He also had some type of stress that made him snap and never go back to the way he was. I wonder if Ted Bundy would have been different if he put himself in a different environment. While doing my research on Ted I do believe he was ready for change. I think that therapy sessions to uncover inner turmoil along with medication may have helped Ted. It would have been interesting to see if these treatments would have worked.
In today’s society, one will find that there are many different factors that go into the development of a criminal mind, and it is impossible to single out one particular cause of criminal behavior. Criminal behavior often stems from both biological and environmental factors. In many cases criminals share similar physical traits which the general population do not usually have. For example criminals have smaller brains than properly adjusted individuals. However biological reasons cannot solely be the cause of criminal behavior. Therefore, one must look to other sources as to how a criminal mind is developed. Social and environmental factors also are at fault for developing a person to the point at which they are lead to committing a criminal act. Often, someone who has committed a violent crime shows evidence of a poorly developed childhood, or the unsuitable current conditions in which the subject lives. In addition if one studies victimology which is the role that the victim plays in the crime, it is apparent that there are many different causes for criminal behavior. Through the examination of biological factors, in addition to the social and environmental factors which make up a criminal mind, one can conclude that a criminal often is born with traits common to those of criminals, it is the environment that exist around them that brings out the criminal within them to commit indecent acts of crime.
Criminals are born not made is the discussion of this essay, it will explore the theories that attempt to explain criminal behaviour. Psychologists have come up with various theories and reasons as to why individuals commit crimes. These theories represent part of the classic psychological debate, nature versus nurture. Are individuals predisposed to becoming a criminal or are they made through their environment.
