Technology is Taking Over Society

It seems that it is harder to grab a child’s attention unless there is a screen in front of them. This problem can be summed up into one word: Technology. Over the last 3 decades in America, technology has become more readily available than ever. Many children and students have taken full advantage of this opportunity.
Watching television can be an exciting thing to do. If your are like me, you can watch TV for hours at a time. But have you ever become tired, simply from watching television? You probably think that this occurs when you have been in front of a TV screen for too long, but allow me to correct. Studies have shown that 89% of American households own at least one television set. Today over 70% of America watches TV daily for extended periods of time. Which means that in every house in the U.S., you will find a TV regardless of living conditions or wealth (Pew Research Center, 2014).
The normal person watches about 30 minutes - 2 hours of television a day. Most Americans tend to watch 40% news and sports, and 60% other various networks, channels, and shows. Most people that I know enjoy sitting in front of a television set and watching their favorite channel, show, or episode. There is something for everyone on television whether you’re just watching basic cable or a well-known TV provider. It is not hard to find something entertaining to watch, but limiting it to a controllable amount can become difficult. There is even a name for flipping through channels described as “channel surfing”. Although this may seem insignificant, sitting in front of a television for a long time will make you a much less intelligent person, depending on what you are watching.

The point I'm making is that too many people today...

...ay’s youth. A large fraction of this generation’s social and emotional development is happening on their cell phones and the internet. Now, we all know that being infront of electronic devices for long periods of time does in fact cause minor health problems overtime. Adolescents have to be mindful of what is going on in the world around them. It is important that they are interactive and engaged to society.

They also need to be active in their community, and not just with their internet status. It is our own job to take care of what God has blessed us with, and not to take advantage of those things. I believe that if this current generation in America spent more time doing positive things with technology, along with limiting the use of it, then we can all have healthier lifestyles. This will also create a better and brighter future for America’s youth.
