In today’s medical field technology plays a big role when it comes to patient care. Technology is huge when it comes to giving the patient the best type of quality care when they are in the hospital. In the old days people would just write it down on a sheet of paper and record it by hand, which caused mistakes. Now with the Electronic Health Record those mistakes are drastically declining. Statistics have shown that using the Electronic Health Record has lowered Nursing mistakes as well as improved patient care. Our society has progressed through the years and has been introduced with the Electronic Health Record which has drastically improved our health care system. The Electronic Health Record provides great communication between healthcare professionals as well with patients.
With the introduction of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, a component of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, represents the Nation’s first substantial commitment of the Federal government to support the widespread adoption of the Electronic Health Record (Kumar,2011). One of the main benefits that come from the EHR is the communication between health professionals. One of the biggest things in the hospital to make sure patient outcomes are successful is communication. It’s a vital part of nursing when it comes to patient care. Nurses have to communicate with doctors, other nurses, pharmacy, labs, and etc. and the EHR improves this tremendously.
Another great aspect of the EHR is that it involves the participation of the patient. It is crucial to make the patient participates when they are diagnosed with a chronic condition such as diabetes or cancer. With the EHR nurses and providers can ...
