Technology and it's effects

1170 Words3 Pages

First world society as a whole is becoming more and more reliant on technology and subsequently its influence shows on the next generation of each individual society. Its influence can be seen in both the kids of the next generation, the adults of the current one, and our culture in general. American society would not have progressed to the where it is now without technological advancements and it will not survive the everchanging world in which we live in without it, no matter its adverse effect.
Obviously, there are several benefits to the recent technology boon, even though several of these pro’s could also be considered a con. One hundred years ago, most couldn’t even conceive of a computer let alone a virtual world in which almost all information can be just a touch away. Even twenty years ago a powerful computer had a ten megabyte hard drive and was almost three times the size of the one terabyte hard drives of today and cost four times as much. Now, many adults, kids, and teenagers have never had a world where the World Wide Web is nonexistent to the masses. Another benefit to the many technological feats include the ability to accomplish previously difficult or impossible tasks with ease. The economy of the United States and many other first world countries would be no where without the robots, advanced tools, and programs that now run the assembly lines pumping out industry. This has several effects, one of the biggest ones being that products have never been pumped out more quickly than they are today, and a negative side effect being that the environment is deteriorating more quickly right now than the entirety of human history as a whole, making the world a much smaller place both literally and figuratively.

The world in which we live in is becoming ever more reliant on the growing field of technology. As a country, we cannot simply ignore this culture shift from reliance on individual strength and intellect to a more universally friendly mentality. This shift may have many adverse effects on society that we must minimize in order to maintain a healthy society and workforce. Educational facilities and parents need to more direct social interaction and etiquette into children's daily lives in order to avoid the children becoming ignorant of basic social cues and having a lack of respect for their superiors, whether they be a teacher or another adult. Technology can be a double edged sword for the world. Like it or not, It will always be an integral part of our society especially now that we have grown comfortable to the presence of much of it.
