Communication is the exchange of a shared exchange of the basic meaning between two or more people. The person speaking is called the communicator, this is the person the message to the receivers. The receiver is the person listening to the message. In today’s fast paced business world technology has taken over and face to face talk has diminished over time. Communication today is from several different forms of technology. First and foremost many people have discussions via the computer or some type of voice mail that can be setup. Using fax machines is another great way new technology has taken over face to face discussions. Last is the very popular cellular telephone. Using this new technology face to face communication has become less attractive. With new technology face to face communication is not really needed. Like many other people I completed my college education with new technology, taking the classes online, never face to face communicating with the instructor. Business meeting are set up via web communications, saving the business large amounts of money and time. All members of the business meeting can remain in there current location and attend the meeting. This has changed the way we do business and communicate to our staff. What are the benefits and challenges associated with using contemporary (Current) communication technologies? Technology has made a huge increase in many areas since I was born. Really, 1959 there was a few channels on the television, communication was limited but society seemed connected. I watched technology rise in the 1980’s with cable television and the internet in the 1990’s. The old Fashion way of receiving mail was slowly disappearing and the e-mail world began to become popular... ... middle of paper ... ... globe. The use of business meetings with multi national companies via modern technology is cost effective and very efficient. I am a firm believer at some point that meetings need to be face to face so the employees can communicate with each other. This to me is extremely important, but in the modern world of technology most weekly meetings are set up via technology. Where I am currently working the government is lost building a new state of the art building set to open in June 2014. The Project engineer has never actually been onsite. His first step on the premises will be February 19, 2014. New technology allows him to attend the weekly meetings. This is great for the business, and very cost effective for the business, but how good is this for the government when the project engineer is never on scene. technology is good, but this is a good business practice.
When you hear the word communicate many ideas come to mind. To some it brings thoughts of face to face conversations others think of internet based video conferencing. There are many ways to communicate with others in this day and age. Leaders have many tools and methods with which they can communicate with those around them. They must evaluate each situation to determine which method or methods will provide the desired result for what we are trying to communicate to their teams so they can avoid the confusion that comes when they choose the wrong communication method. (Gendron 2015) In this paper we will discuss several communication methods available to leaders and then look at what are some common challenges and barriers they face when
With the increase of technology, it gives rise to innovations beyond belief. One of the most important innovations of our time is the cell phones. Today, people can now use what would be considered as a computer during the 1900s, in the palm of our hands. The accessibility of the cell phone has instantly changed our way of life.
...re not in a same country, they also can have a meeting and communicate with each other through telepresence. Accordingly, shareholders can make decision which is important and urgent.
Teleconferencing gives a team the convenience of sharing information in real time. When meeting in this manner, team members are able to receive instant feedback. Workplace meetings can be considered as essential but one of the most inefficient components of a corporate environment. Project managers can significantly influence the project performance by proactively influencing and controlling the dynamics of project meetings. This can ultimately generate highly valuable outputs in achieving team integration and consensus.
and management. This way all parties involved are informed as the project progresses from stage to
In the past decade, technology brings huge impacts on social interaction. From phone call to facetime, from blog to Facebook. Advance technology enables us to reach and communicate with people in a more convenient and broad way, no matter how far these people are away from us. Medium of communication are growing. However, some old ways of communications never fade out. And I am going to talk about
This method of communication is the one which is probably used the most because there are few faults with it compared to other means of communicating. With face-to-face, you are not just analysing the words which are being exchanged but also the body language (say towards a customer).
Remote Access | As more of the knowledge based workforce become more mobile, the ability to be able to access cooperate data while not in the office is essential to employee productivity. This not only increases mobile employees’ productivity, but also has a significant impact on other employees and their productivity since information can be updated in the central corporate database providing near real-time information.
Communicating with anyone in the world continues to get more efficient every single day. Technology has made communicating faster and in better quality. Business meetings can now be held with people anywhere in the world, at any time during the day, over a video call. Business people are also using email so much more than they are the telephone because of the efficiency. People do not answer a phone call when they do not know the number that is calling them. People will answer an email much faster than calling back a person who has left a voicemail for them.
“We barely have time to pause and reflect these days on how far communicating through technology has progressed. Without even taking a deep breath, we’ve transitioned from email to chat to blogs to social networks and more recently to twitter” (Alan 2007). Communicating with technology has changed in many different ways. We usually “get in touch” with people through technology rather than speaking with them face to face. The most popular way people discuss things, with another individual, is through our phones. Phones have been around way before I was born in 1996, but throughout the years, they have developed a phone called a “smart phone”. The smart phone has all kinds of new things that we can use to socialize with our peers. On these new phones, we can connect with our friends or family on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Technology has also developed Skype, a place you can talk with people on the computer with instant voice and video for hours. The new communication changes have changed drastically from the new advances made in technology through our smart phones, social networking sites, and Skype.
Communication is an important aspect of processing and transferring information in our society. The important entities needed for a successful communication includes; a sender, receiver, message and feedback. First, the sender is a person or entity that is sending information to the receiver. After receiving the message, the receiver will attempt to decode the message and prepares a proper response (feedback). Communication is an essential part of our daily interactions; it can be seen used in businesses, for pleasure, sports, education and many more activities.
Face-to-face communication is a form of a direct and personal or social interaction. It occurs in a specific and tangible, real-time space. Face-to-face communication does not require any technology to mediate the said communication phenomenon (Goffman 2012, 83). This particular form of communication allows for people to publicly negotiate and define their identities. Since it is a form of direct communication, it requires at least two individuals to be physically and mentally present in the same place at the same time for communication interaction to occur. Face-to-face communication is still often used and is usually deemed as most effective. But the influx of technology in the field of communication has provided a popular alternative for people to communicate. Technology revolutionized communication. People, in the contemporary world, are very much familiar with the wonders of technology and they know better to harness its power to make their communication problems remain at bay. Online and social media are the current go-to places for people whenever they need to send messages, interact in the online world,
Both of these interactions play a key role in communication. Virtual and Face to Face interaction can have similarities and differences. To analyze how they are similar and
Effective communication is essential for success, both for organizations as a whole and individuals working in those organizations. “Ambition and great ideas aren’t enough; you need to be able to communication with people in order to succeed in business.” (Bovee & Thill, 2014) Using technology as a tool to communicate can be effective at times, but it does not replace interacting with coworkers face-to-face. Effective listening is an important part of effective communication. Good communication is essential to managing and working in a productive
