People avoid deep communication; technology continues to advance giving us the option to hide behind a screen. What happened to exploring the world and seeing different perspectives of life though our own eyes instead of a screen? Society is very dependent on technology to the point where we are sometimes unaware of the things and people that are around us. Sometimes we need technology in our life it’s a way of staying connected especially when you live 3,000 miles away from your friends and family or even your loved one. There are many ways you can communicate from long distance for example video apps such as face time and Skype. Many other options such as instant message, Google hang outs, Facebook messenger; twitter, Instagram and snap chat are useful apps. It’s something useful because sometimes we don’t have the time to go visit our family when they live on the other side of the country. “The down side is that it can be hard to juggle all the various ways to communicate.” (Wortham pg.398)There are bad things about technology as well; sometimes it takes too much of our time. We make it habit to use technology and that’s all we focus on. Turkle reminds us that teenagers plug into their devices but not each other (pg.378). Robin claims that some apps can be addictive and have a bad influence on people. “In some cases, people have become addicted to certain technology, causing antisocial behavior.” (Robinson) People will forget about their social skills, which could have an impact on future job interviews. Researchers say that the 21st century has been heavily affected by technology by causing stress on people in various way as well as illnesses including hearing loss, eye strain, blurred vision and how much sleep people get.
