The evolution of technology has drastically changed society. Currently, we live in what is known as the technological era. As we observe our surrounding environment we see forms of technology being used to complete simple daily task. Technology has proven to simplify life with the advances like the electric stove, the mobile phone, the calculator, the computer and much more. It has made communication easier, provided more employment opportunities, and has effectively contributed to academics.
When we talk about technology in education the first thing that comes to mind are computers, the internet, and device which accommodate the disable. The internet, in its simplest form, has opened students to knowledge about the world near and far. This information lies at the fingertips of every student with the accessibility of a computer. The placement of computers in classrooms continues to increase along with a great support for technology integration in academics (Fabry & Higgs, 1997 ).
The ways in which new technologies are being utilized in the classroom has played an important role in widening the resources and knowledge base for all students. The addition of technology in the classroom gives students a greater understanding and a new way to learn. For example, the interactive board stimulates students understanding as it provides illustrations and visual manipulations that allow student to see a concept in more than one way. With software like PowerPoint, Prezi, and other presentation software teachers are able to engage students and present information in forms that students are familiar with and find interest in.
