Throughout human history new technology has caused the evolution of human communication. From the first languages to newly formed social medias, communication has constantly been evolving and adapting in order to fit with the current society. In Brave New World by Aldous Huxely we see a futuristic society where their exceedingly advanced society limits its members expression through the use of technology. In Nosedive, humans depend on technology for their confined and monitored communication and as a form of law enforcement. Due to the implement of technology within these societies, their members are extremely structured and lack the conventional freedoms associated with humanity. People are created and moulded to fit within specific categories. In the text we are notified of the turmoil and conflict that technology causes and are aware of the lack of humanity the individuals possess. However, without technology this society would collapse. “Making ninety-six human beings grow where only one did before…progress” grants us a snapshot into the morals and goals of this society, allowing us to identify that simplicity does equate to stability. In order for this society to survive they must partially sacrifice their humanity, this is expressed within the quote “Community, identity, stability.” This is the World States motto, the basic foundation of the morals of the Brave New World society. This quote uses its short and simplistic nature to convey quite a deep and significant meaning. Its simplistic format allows it to become mesmerising and remain in the audiences thoughts long after, furthering its purpose and meaning within the text. In Brave New World several different technological advancements create control. The Bokanovsky process is one of these, putting people into predetermined roles and giving them the bare minimum they require in order for them to happily survive. Hypnopaedia also plays an alarmingly large role in control over the society in Brave New World. All of the morals that the members in this society possess stem from hypnopaedic statements, such as “"One cubic centimetre cures ten gloomy sentiments,”, "When the individual feels, the community reels.” and "everyone belongs to everyone else”. These statements are profoundly simplistic and in most cases quiet rhythmical. This technique furthers their purpose within the text; to be followed without truely understanding the meaning or purpose. Soma adds yet another level of control within this society as they created addiction and desperation within the society. This desperation and addiction is apparent in various scenes including when John savage threw the soma out off the window while questioning “Don't you want to be free and men? Don't you even understand what manhood and freedom are?”, little care of understanding was given to the actual question, however utter uproar and chaos began as a result of the soma rations being threatened. While there are less controlling features within Nosedive, the society still features immense control by its social media. The
