Technology: Improving the Way we Communicate in Society

It’s 2014 and we are living, learning and performing everyday tasks in the future like the Jetsons. Technology has changed and continues to change many lives by the way we now communicate. In the past telephones, pagers, and written letters were the main ways of communicating. According to Dictionary.com, “technology is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science” (“Technology” Def 1). Technology, in the 21st century, has altered the way teenagers and other age groups communicate with each other in society on a day to day basis. With the invention and use of social networks and electronic devices, technology has made communicating faster, easier and more reliable which has improved society overall.

Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter give users the ability to instantly connect with others all over the world. According to Gustavo S. Mesch “studies conducted in the 1980’s reported that young people were likely to use online communication with peers they did not know” (Mesch 98).
