Meredith who is the founder of Bead Bar realized that she needed to make some updates to her company in order for her to succeed. Bead Bar is a company who specializes in allowing customers to visit the store and they can create their own bead jewelry. The founder of this fantastic company is Meredith, which was started in 1998. Her very first store was located in New Canaan, Connecticut. Since then she has been able to really make her company grow. Today she now has three divisions which are: studios, franchises, and Bead Bar on Board. There are a total of six studios. These studios are responsible for oversees the company’s six bead bar studios they have. The franchises sell beading supplies to the businesses that want to open their own bead studio. The newest division is the Bead Bar on Board. This division is designed for cruise ships! There is an average of 35 employees located at each store. The down fall for this company is they still use paper based forms. This is hurting the company with trying to keep up with the demand in the product. They have even lost orders, had incorrect invoicing, and delays in fulfilling orders. With this company growing like it is, having a computer system set up is the best decision for the company. Middleton Mutual is a large insurance company that is seeking innovation. The Chief Information Officer, Dennis Devereaux, and Vice President of Information Systems, Max Vargo, are trying to push for a new expert system to ease up the underwriting process of their company. The issue that arises in the company is that certain higher ups aren’t willing to fund this one million dollar project without proof of return. Within the next year, the company will be losing two underwriters. Devereaux has his hands full with trying to get the company’s financial approval.
It has come to my attention that the functionality of my computer system is quite limited for the company’s day-to-day actions. It gives me great honor to propose, a new set of systems that will replace the dated systems that I currently use to complete my job. I am confident that these machines will allow me to think of new creative, ideas that will create new innovative marketing strategies for the company.

The five friends knew it would not be easy to found their own business. They unanimously decided to name Mike O’Brien as their first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) due to the fact that he was the only one in the group who was not currently employed and could dedicate the most time to the project. O’Brien was also the most out-going and the best salesperson in the group with the best business connections. All knew they could trust O’Brien to keep all their interest at hand. All five contributed $40,000 (for a total initial investment of $200,000) in order to set up the company. George Off and Mike Scroggie worked together to come up with a software that could collect and analyze the information to print coupons based upon the Universal Product Code (UPC) bar code. The idea was to come up with a means of modifying the only programmable POS (point of sale) system of the day, an IBM 3650, to print coupons once given a cue. A small family run chain in Rochester, New York (Wegmans) gave Catalina permission to test it’s “Coupon Solution” in their stores. The son of the owner, Danny Wegman, signed the contract for this test pilot.

It is a relatively small business that mainly does computer sales and repair with some occasional networking jobs. The actual business consists of a show room and a workshop. The showroom has different models of computers that customers can have built to buy. There are 4 different types depending on a customer’s budget for a computer. The low-end models consisting of a Pentium III processor and 256 Mb of RAM and the basic keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer, and speakers, and the high-end models consisting of a Pentium 4 processor or equivalent with 256 or more Mb of DDR RAM and premium speakers, keyboard, mouse, printer and monitor. Thus, meaning you get what you pay for. The display models allow you to show a customer some of the features of the different types of computer systems that are offered. Such things as operating systems such as Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, and also programs like Nero for CD burners, All-in-Wonder TV tuner cards and applications such as Microsoft Office. This was my first opportunity to work with Windows XP.

Since the organization has had the challenge of rebranding themselves to attract a new customer base which is also an opportunity to grow the organization. Weave Tech has to reposition the organization to be successful throughout the changes.
