Technology: Good or Evil?
Over 200,000 years ago, when humans were living in caves, homo sapiens have been developing and using technology to improve their lives. However, technology 200,000 years ago was drastically different compared to what it is today. Back then the cavemen were using technology to hunt and create fires and the wheel was a breakthrough invention. Quite a large difference compared to nowadays where everyone has a personal computer in their pocket. It is part of human nature to create things that make life easier and better and for the most part, no one has disputed the advancement of technology. However, there are a lot of downsides to technology that most people do not consider. Therefore, the question is, do the positives

According to Tom Seay, the executive producer, and host of Best of America by Horseback, it would take roughly five months to travel from the Atlantic Ocean to San Diego, California. However, this estimate includes modern technology, being able to get food, water, and shelter easily. Therefore, you would be looking at least six months to do the trek with no modern technology. Now ask yourself, would you ever do that expedition in order to see a family member that is two thousand miles away with no modern technology? Of course not, most of us would not even survive the trek. Therefore, we created technology for the situation to make the task of traveling the world do-able. Nowadays, it would only take roughly four hours to fly on a commercial airline from one side of America to the other. Travelling is only one example of how technology saves us time. Another case of technology saving us time is the internet. Internetlivestats.com is a website that has a live counter of how many people in the world have the internet. At the time I wrote this, the counter showed that 3.47 billion people had the internet. That is roughly 40% of the world’s population, a large increase in percentage compared to 1% in 1995. The internet is arguably one of the greatest inventions of all time. An example of how it saves us time is when doing research. Rather than having to go to the local library and searching countless books to find information, all we have to do is conduct a quick search on one of the internets most visited pages, Google.com. Within a half second, I am given 662,000,00 results on the benefits of technology and am able to easily write my essay. With all of the time we save do to technology, we are able to do far greater tasks and thus improving our
Everyday technology is becoming more preeminent in our society. We have created machines and gadgets that seemed like dreams even just one hundred years ago. Most of these inventions have no doubt benefited society. No one would deny the fact that the polio vaccine, which was discovered through countless research and technological devices, was a tremendous breakthrough in the medical field. Most everyone would also agree that the start of the automobile industry has improved society and has made communicating to others much easier. It may seem as if there are only advantages to technological breakthroughs like these, however not everything that has been created has improved society 100% of the time. Many discoveries have been debated
We all know why we like technology. Some positive things of technology that mostly everyone had thought about are how convenient it is. But have you looked deeper into the pros of technology? For example, technology had come a long way. Take a look at DNA forensics. Without DNA testing and tracking, we would not be able to put criminals in jail when they are guilty. This process has worked great for those studying forensics, science, even working for the government. As stated from the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, DNA is especially important in the study of evolution. They are right! DNA and other sciences would not make the world it is today. If we did not have this type of technology we have today, we would not be able to perform surgeries. We would not be able to provide auto...
Today the world revolves around different kinds of technology that are used for many things, some are necessary and some are not. Technology is a big part of our lives, and many would say we couldn’t live without it. Weather people like it or not technology is here, and it’s not going away. But a big question is; Is technology good or bad? Advancements in technology are bad For many reasons. Some are anyone who has a laptop can find someones personal information, people don’t get as much face to face interaction because they are always talking on the internet, and kids aren’t using proper grammar online, so they are losing their writing skills.
“Technology is supposed to make our lives easier, allowing us to do things more quickly and efficiently. But too often it seems to make things harder, leaving us with fifty-button remote controls, digital cameras with hundreds of mysterious features.” (James Surowiecki) Whether or not is known, technology has become too heavily relied on. It is replacing important social factors such as, life skills and communication skills. While technology is created to be beneficial, there must be a point in time where we draw the line. Once face-to-face conversations begin to extinguish, this means that there is too much focus on the “screen culture”. In her writing, “Alone Together”, Sherry Turkle talks
While generations of today have witnessed countless technological advances, there are also downfalls to these progressions. Technology interferes with education, attention spans, relationships, social interactions, self esteem, and even creativity. In order for technology to have more pros than cons, it is pertinent to keep a clear perspective. Monitoring how much you or your children spend time using electronics is the key to making sure that technology is not harmful.
There are many tracking technologies that law enforcement are using in this day and age. Using newly developed technology may help law enforcement capture criminals much faster. Also, this enables officers to respond more quickly to a crime scene. Using some of these equipment can save a person’s life with a quick response.
Over the last few decades, technology has greatly increased its abilities. It started from the simple radio to now having cell phones which can surf the web. Technology has greatly influenced our society in many ways. Nowadays it has made family relationships have a different connection and has simplified people’s lives. A couple decades ago, a person would never had imagined to Skype a family member across the world. It would be like trying to imagine teleportation. It was unthinkable, but with moderation, technology has evolved for the better. With the new technology in our world, people are able to talk to their distant family members. People are also able to save time and watch a movie with their extra time. There are pros and cons to having technology nowadays. Yes, people are able to communicate faster and save money, but technology is also disconnecting them from the people around them. Technology has changed humanity for the better, but humans must know to use technology in moderation.
As I sit here writing this essay and really truly think about technology, it comes to me the vast positives that technology offers. I take for granted the fact that I am sitting here in a room with a television playing, music streaming, and access to more information than I could ever retain. Technological advances in this world have created a place where its inhabitants can be connected at all times to all the other inhabitants. Technology is creating jobs for a great amount of people in many cities all over the world. While some believe that technology is debilitating us as a human race, those thoughts have no credibility. The people that are making those statements making them by posting them on a website using technology. We have surrounded
Technology has more negative effects on today’s society than positive. Due to technology in the past few decades Canine Shock Collars have been increasingly popular. Students in school pay more attention to texting than they do their classes. Violent addictive video games have made their way into American homes. Parents encourage their children to not text as much, but them to face the problem of constant communication. The Internet gives the students easier ways to cheat in school, and reinforces laziness. Internet Porn gives every bored male a chance to look at the seediest film in the comfort of his own home. Technology has taken the innocence and mystery away from the American family.
When the world was created, there was no technology but yet man survived (Opara). As time moved on technology began to revolutionize the world. Man kept creating ways to make every life easier for themselves. I don’t see a problem with what man has created but what a man has become of it. I agree with Peace Chinwe Opara when he states in his article, “Technology has been implanted into people's blood. Man cannot do without technology. If technology is taken away, man will die. Imagine this world now without electricity. Do you think man will survive it?” People without technology will go crazy just like a chicken with its head cut off. Once upon a time man relied on their own strength, hard work and ideas to carry on business and complete everyday tasks. I’m not against technology but I can assure you that the direction of modern technology will only bring negative effects to society and the world.
Jim Mannoia found himself stuck in traffic on a Los Angeles freeway, his left leg aching from maneuvering the heavy standard transmission in the stop-and-go traffic, sweltering in the heat because his air conditioner was not working and the vehicle was beginning to overheat at the engine level as well as inside the passenger compartment. Worst of all was that the radio was not working. Feeling rightly miserable, he noticed a BMW in the lane beside him, its windows rolled up tight against the heat while undoubtedly the air conditioner blew at full blast. He could hear the bass lines of the car’s stereo and even wondered how the driver could hear well enough to carry on his cell phone conversation.
Technology can be conveyed as a necessary evil in our life today. It’s considered necessary because it can save lives, and make them easier. Yet it’s considered evil because it can destroy lives on a physical and mental aspect. The true question is does the good outway the bad? ‘Technology is a word used to collectively describe or portray the advancements, abilities, creations, undertaking, views, and knowledge of the human-kind”(https://www.academia.edu/346486/Technological_Advancements_and_Its_Impact_on_Humanity). Therefore it basically means that it progresses the human race. It connects us, conserves energy and produces goods, and it saves lives. How could it not be a good thing?
Humans used to be able to kill mammoths and a lot of stuff we think is just crazy now a days. There’s always the risk of evolution of humans becoming weaker and weaker. Humans are already weaker than we used to be. Technology can be making our eyes worse or our body’s less physique than they are. We cannot predict what will happen from the technology that we are so dependent on now a days. It might be for good or it might be for bad. I generally speaking think that technology can help us evolve. The possibilities you can take technology is endless well until you run out of resources in the next million years or two but yeah. Technology could lead us to possibilities that we thought were just impossible. I mean think about it the endless possibilities the endless minds making endless inventions. Technology wise we are constantly evolving and our understanding of technology is getting better and better. Yet our understanding of other things are getting worse. The more we rely on technology the more our weakness grows. The weakness of being addicted, eyestrain, several others are possible through the technology that we love so much. The more we open up to technology the more the future generation is more likely to have those
Society has been impacted both negatively and positively by technology. As a result, every aspect of our lives has been influenced by technology. Hence, life is easier, yet it has taken away some of the enjoyment. For example, remember the days of less stress and more personal interaction, when there were no online messages, no emails, social media or cell phones. We have become excessively dependent on technology. As a result, we need to rely less on technology even though it has made learning fun, and business, daily tasks, work, travel, shopping, making new friends and staying in touch easier. In conclusion, technology has a lot of benefits, yet it could take over our lives and become our worst enemy if we aren't careful.
I think that, to a certain extent, technological advancement is a very good thing, because it can enhance and enrich our lives, but when it starts to take over the simple things in life and makes everything instant and electronic, technology can be bad.
