Technology for Teachers and Students Educational technology continues to advance making learning a different experience for students. “Educational technology includes all real, analog, and digital technologies and media that can be used to support teaching and learning (Lever-Duffy, McDonald, & Mizell, 2003, p. 2)”. When the writer was attending grade school in the 90’s educational technology was nothing compared to how it is now. The technology then was minimal; it was not until the writer got to fifth/sixth grade when students would take AR (Accelerated Reader) quizzes on the computer to move up a reading level. That was the early kind of educational technology and now the advances have been immense. The many theories of learning …show more content…
Then there is a constructivist instruction and that is the theory of learning that describes how the mind can create knowledge using a more engaging alternative. Both of these approaches could help technology integration depending on how the technology is being incorporated, effective technology integration has to be done in a series of trial and error steps. Effective technology integration involves the students instead of having the teacher being the dominant focus. “Seamless integration is when students are not only using technology daily, but have access to a variety of tools that match the task at hand and provide them the opportunity to build a deeper understanding of content. But how we define technology integration can also depend on the kinds of technology available, how much access one has to technology, and who is using the technology ("What Is Successful Technology Integration? | Edutopia," n.d.)”. Therefore, whenever it comes to creating effective technology integration in a classroom you should always ask yourself who is using the technology, and does this type of technology promote active or passive student learning. Technology integration is essential and nit sidelined to the learning activity. Again, when integrating technology and making it essential some things to ask yourself as the teacher is the …show more content…
Teachers should be aware of how much work goes into integrating technology. It must meet a long list of criteria and be intentional in its presentation to students. If technology was not working as an effective teaching tool then why would it be used? However, that is not the case because it works and it does make a difference. So current and future teachers, please understand that integrating technology is a lot of work, but the outcomes are positive and effective. Educational Technology is on the rise, and will continue to be a positive teaching tool and will continue to make advances in the current and near
Technology is growing every day. We use technology for everything we do, sometimes without even thinking about it. In our world, these advancements are used for communicating, entertainment, and education as well as others. Since technology is so ingrained into our lives, how much we use and depend on it is often not thought about. Our education system is on the front end of using new technology in classrooms. More and more class room and teachers are weaving it into their lesson plans and making it more available for students to use in the classroom. Technology is changing the way students are educated in America and across the world. In this paper I will discuss several ways that this can be seen and improved.
Another good use for technology is extra jobs. People can easily get online and put applications in. This is good in case they’re not physically able to get to the place they want to apply for. If they’re able to get to the place and put a good impression in on the boss, they can just search for jobs online then go in and put an application in.
Technology has become a hot item for school district to implement into the classroom. The need for this technology comes from an every changing world and because of the way 21st century students learn. Web 2.0 technology must be used and integrated into the classroom. However, many problems occur when trying to integrate technology. Question on whether student achievement is increased, failures of school districts, and new demands placed on teachers have caused a negative spin on technology. In order to be successful, technology must be implemented correctly by the community, administrators, and teachers together.
Integrating technology requires a comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and content standards and the ways that technology can maximize student learning. In my classroom, I strive to have students using technology as a natural part of their learning experience. By teaching technology concurrently with content, I’ve observed my students making parallel gains in technology skills and knowledge.
Integrating technology in the 21st century classroom would be one of the most powerful tools that we can implement in our classrooms, schools, and districts. Technology is growing at such a rapid pace integrating technology only prepares our students for their future. “They are growing up with technology all around them and from an early age have an understanding of how to use computers” (Shields and Behrman, 2000). Our education system needs to be revamped, not only is technology in every aspect of our lives, our education system is lagging behind in integrating technology in the classrooms.
Research has shown that although technology can increase academic opportunities among all students, many teachers neither use it for instruction nor integrate it into curriculum (Bauer and Kenton, 2005). Access to technology in schools has steadily increased, however classrooms have not grown at the same rate in their level of technology integration (Belland 2009). Although there are numerous barriers thought to prevent effective use of technology integration such as lack of time and resources, and teacher skill (Bauer and Kenton, 2005) and school culture (Zhao, Pugh, Sheldon, & Byers, 2002), much research has shown that the greatest barrier is the teacher’s beliefs (Ertmer, 2005), and their willingness to employ technology in teaching and student-centered learning (Teo, 2010). According to Dinham (2005), leadership is a key factor in creating effective, innovative schools and in guiding quality teaching and learning and yet principals have not been provided technology training comparable to the professional development offered to teachers (Flanagan & Jacobsen, 2003). Principal behaviors such as inspiring a shared vision for successful technology integration, providing professional development and support, and creating a school culture that embraces this vision is essential (Yee,
Technology enables students and teachers to have a fast and easy way to acquire unlimited access to tons of information. With all of the useful technologies, the curriculum is bound to change in endless ways, creating more opportunity for learning.
According to a recent study by the U.S. Department of Education, despite access to funding and equipment, less than 35% of teachers have integrated technology in their instruction at the very least, on a weekly basis. (U.S. Department of Education, 2008) Research has shown that teachers’ beliefs, comfort level and readiness to use technology play a crucial role in its implementation within a school setting. Other concerns such as technological literacy and perceived usefulness of technology for student learning can dictate its use, or lack thereof. “Educators are urged to incorporate technology into instruction, but the effectiveness of educational technology is determined by teachers’ readiness to use it, not by its mere presence in the classroom.” (Jones, 2001) Much research has been done regarding the lack of technology implementation in schools. The common thread is the inability of connection for teachers between technology tools, and how they impact student learning.
Technology is a crucial part of modern life. From advancements in medicine, infrastructure, transport, and communication; we as a collective society can attribute the comfort of our lives to technology. Technology ( and its various implementations in both develop and developing nations) allow us to connect like never before, creating a ripple effect wherein it is an assumed part of everyday life. As a result of technology and its various uses being an essential element in our daily life, the modern day classroom has had to evolve with the times. The curriculum demands that schools should be integrating technology, especially digital technologies, into their lessons in as seamless a fashion as possible. However, does the prevalence of digital
Technology is the way which extends humans ability. It is very difficult to obtain a precise definition of technology. It is generally accepted that "technology" is more than just a collection of physical products of science. "Technology" is the link between society and its tools.
Technology has rapidly changed over the years and has expanded our infrastructure greatly. In particular, as technology advances the education system adapts to the many changes. The world of technology brings about many new improvements and shows no sign of slowing down. Many people spend their day to day lives utilizing the great aspects of technology doing almost anything imaginable. Through technology teachers and students can connect and expound upon the many fields of education. Technology is an ever growing aid in education that has increased awareness, communication, and accessibility. How is technology shaping education? The uses of mobile devices and applications have shown a great influence in the education system.
The role of the curriculum area ‘Technology and Society’ in schools is one I believe holds significant value for us as teachers, but even more so the pupils who will be immersed in technology in the near future. Over the years technology has significantly developed and has become more widespread, even in my short time of 21 years. Our world has changed hugely in a way where encounters with a wide range of technologies, has become part of our daily life experience at work or leisure. From the radio alarm that wakes us in the morning, to the house alarm that keeps us safe at night, technology is now even abundant at home. Some of the food we even eat is as a result of modern technology. We need to gain experience with these types of technologies and build a body of knowledge so that when we encounter them, we know how to use them efficiently and safely. The role of Technology and Society is aimed to “equip students to face these encounters with confidence that comes from learning about, through and with a range of technologies” (NCCA, 2007). In this essay, I will speak about how Technology and Society equips us with the necessary knowledge and experience for challenges I believe our society faces. I will also consider the capacity of T&S to respond to the New Junior Cycle Framework which is coming down the pipeline very quickly and will be in place in the very near future.
Before I registered for Teaching Technology in The Classroom, I had the idea that technology was a simple skill to integrate in the classrooms. I just thought that teaching technology would be simple and fun for the students. I used to think that student already know a lot of technology, therefore it would be as simple subject to integrate in the classrooms. In fact,
Whether technological integration has positive or negative impacts on teaching and learning has been paid increasing attention and a numerous research has done to explore the issue. Regarding the issue, the question of if training teachers in the use of technology in classrooms contributes to students’ outcomes is still an endless argument. This essay will explain two reasons why such training brings about positive academic achievements for learners and a number of training guidelines that can be followed.
Computer technology is one the most innovative advancements in modern-day education. Technology has made its way into the world of teaching practice and principle by expanding the way we approach instruction in the classroom. We are no longer confined to pencil and paper, but have the ability to project and present knowledge in an enhanced way to capture the minds of a generation of students whose society is built around ever expanding world of computer technology.
