It was once a common belief that if employees worked hard, showed up on time and followed the rules that they would be guaranteed a job for life. However, over the last decade there have been changes in the workplace. There are two main causes for this change. The changes in the work place in the twenty-first century are being caused by advancements in technology and expansions in globalization through the Internet. The advancement in technology across the world is a major cause of the changes in the workplace.
In the last thirty years technology has grown at an unbelievable rate. The concept of being connected used to mean a person had a lot of business contacts that could be called upon. In today’s world being connected means a person has email, internet, and text messaging on their cell phone. With cheap and readily available technologically, advanced gadgets are no further away than a trip to Wal-Mart. It is not uncommon to see anyone from a ten year old to an octogenarian whipping out a cell phone with more computing power than Apollo 1 had.
The brief history of Computers started with a gigantic machine to a big box on the desktop, and finally to present time a laptop. These where ways to access the worldwide Internet. Do to consumer’s demand the laptop was convenient because you can be on the go and be able to access the internet form your lap. Cellphones started being notice being only used in the car. It was still called telephone and then you hand big bricks which were called cellphones.
But is this not a wellness for our society? First, we must look at the importance the Internet means for the industrializing and developing society. Technology is definitely a boost to an economy in any nation. In a society that lacks the skills of technological advances, might leap the country economically. With the Internet, nations who weren’t well educated or behind in knowledge will greatly improve with the added IT.
Businesses are using their advantages of the internet to further themselves. Technology In Education As the world heads into the twenty-first century, innovative types of technology are rapidly growing and changing more than ever before. Not only is technology, like computers and personally owned devices like cell phones, tablets, etc., moving and advancing with new applications coming out, but this technology is beneficial to everyday lives by making tasks easier. For example, having a banking application on ones smart phone makes checking savings and other accounts easier. Instead of going into the bank, one can pull it up on their cell phone. Aaron Smith, a researcher for the Pew Research Center's Internet Project, states “Eighty five percent of American adults now own a cell phone of some kind” (Smith 2) and according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of homes with cell phones increased from 36 percent to 71 percent between 1998 and 2005 (Edwards 1), and that was just in 2005.
