One important element is that feedback provides a foundation for positive student and teacher relationships. By providing appropriate feedback, the students understand the teacher is genuinely concerned about them and their education. This component also enhances a student’s self-efficacy and provides an avenue for motivation. Another benefit is feedback affords an opportunity for clarification of what is expected. Student performance and achievement increases as they are able to understand the expectations for the specified task or project.
With the proper guidance and support, teachers can achieve academic excellence in the classroom. They follow their principal’s vision and share their goals. Teachers also serve as leaders in their classroom. They share their vision and goals with their students promoting positive attitudes in the classroom. Just like it is important for principals to respect and understand what their teachers need, students also need the support, understanding, respect and empathy from their teachers.
A motivating classroom is perhaps defined as an environment where learning is facilitated by the impact of the teacher's efforts. It is important that teachers ensure that the work of each member of the group is significant to the success of the task. Individual accountability refers to the need for each member of the team to receive feedback on his or her own efforts contribute to the achievement of the goal. Cooperative learning permits that students interact in ways that they can enhance and deepen their learning. Students can reflect on the acquired knowledge by talking with and listening to their classmates. It also increases motivation for learning because it encourages responsibility, can improve cognitive and social skills, such as academic engagement, self-esteem, attitudes toward school, and strong kinship with peers.
An effective teacher not only succeeds at helping all students learn, but increases learning for all students as well. Effective teachers possess three main characteristics or qualities. First, an effective teacher will know how to motivate his/her students. Second, an effective teacher will carefully plan a lesson, implement that lesson plan, and test students’ knowledge on that lesson by using essential teaching skills. Third, an effective teacher will use a variety of strategies in hopes of fulfilling all students learning needs.
Generally an incorporation of the practices of teaching respect and caring, and providing a stable and stimulating classroom environment in the school will promote students’ learning. An effective teacher employs these practices jointly, is well-informed of the curriculum content, and is committed to their students learning. The role of teachers is a very fundamental and powerful position because we have a lasting impact on our students. Therefore, it is most imperative to always make judgments grounded upon what is best for my students.
Generally my behaviour and attitude with my students reflects nurturers. According to Pratt the nurturing educators highly believe and accent the relationship between learner’s self-concept and learning (T’Kenye, 2005). Their strengths lay in caring for their students and supporting and encouraging their individual efforts in a trusting and respectful environment (T’Kenye , 2005). In addition, I really believe in emphasizing empowerment. I want to empower my students to use their education for intrinsic motivation purposes.
My motivation for teaching is giving back to the students the opportunity, motivation and understanding that has been provided to me throughout my own education. I want to help people to have better lives, to help the world to be a better place and I like children. My personal beliefs on education are that every student who comes to school could succeed in life and students has something to teach me. I am a role model to my students and I demonstrate respect, honesty, empathy, responsibility, promptness, and desire for learning. I can nurture a desire for learning in students, I feel that education should be relevant and interesting.
I want each student to know that I care about them and want to do all I can to help them learn and grow. As the teacher I will make sure to always keep the students motivated and engaged. In order for that to happen my role as the teacher is to plan and develop activities that students will find motivating. Intrinsic motivation is motivation that students have within themselves. Intrinsic motivation is when a student is motivated to do something due to you own interest and curiosity.
