TL-III Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum Statement
In order to facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that maximize student learning, I look to current research in educational technology in order to design methods and strategies for teaching content standards and student technology standards simultaneously. The 2007 International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) National Education Technology Standards for Students and Performance Indicators for Students (NETS*S) provide my current student-centered road map.
At a basic level of technology integration, students and teachers need to know how to use a variety of technology tools. The primary productivity tool in my 6th grade classroom is word processing. Over the years, my classroom has transformed from the hand-written rough draft and word-processed final draft, to having most of our essay writing experiences completed entirely on the computer. In addition to developing typing speed and knowledge of word processing, students in my classroom learn different ways to make their documents portable including saving as .pdf or .rtf or using Web to email documents or even write collaboratively on Web 2.0 sites.
Word processing and other Web-based writing productivity tools are also the foundation for student research projects. When my students’ prepared their National History Day documentaries, they combined Internet research skills with productivity tools. Students were given extensive instruction on Internet safety, digital citizenship, and effective searching methods before beginning Internet research. Important components of the pre-research lessons included Internet safety and how to maintain personal information privacy when researching; how to use media withi...

At school, I collaborated to offer two separate professional development opportunities: Quick and Easy Digital Portfolios and Media Literacy. At ASTE 2009, I co-presented with the same colleague on the topic of Digital Portfolios.
Integrating technology requires a comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and content standards and the ways that technology can maximize student learning. In my classroom, I strive to have students using technology as a natural part of their learning experience. By teaching technology concurrently with content, I’ve observed my students making parallel gains in technology skills and knowledge.

Technology is growing every day. We use technology for everything we do, sometimes without even thinking about it. In our world, these advancements are used for communicating, entertainment, and education as well as others. Since technology is so ingrained into our lives, how much we use and depend on it is often not thought about. Our education system is on the front end of using new technology in classrooms. More and more class room and teachers are weaving it into their lesson plans and making it more available for students to use in the classroom. Technology is changing the way students are educated in America and across the world. In this paper I will discuss several ways that this can be seen and improved.

Image a school with laptops available to each student to complete their class notes, teachers who are able to help their students through the screens of their computer, children who are excited to learn about numbers with the help of cute, animated characters. With the endless advancement of today’s technology, schools across the world have begun integrating various technology into their curriculum. These devices have the potential to greatly impact students in their learning. When a school opts to use technology in a school setting, the most important factors they should take into consideration are the benefits of using technological devices, the effectiveness of technology used
We live in an ever-changing world. Our society evolves each day, and in doing so renders certain standards and paradigms obsolete. The field of communications serves as an example of this evolution. For a long time, this sector was dominated by print media. Newspapers, magazines, and letters functioned as the primary methods of information delivery. Within recent years, however, the field of communications has experienced the emergence of a new phenomenon: the internet. The internet has altered greatly the way in which information is delivered and presented. Both interpersonal communications and news stories now can be published and accessed instantaneously. These advances have had a definite impact on all realms of society, especially the one in which we function: education. As educators, we must confront the fact that ours in no longer a culture dominated by print media. We must recognize the impact, importance, and prevalence of multimedia. The dominance of multimedia outlets such as television, the internet, and film has been well-documented in recent years. As teachers, we must accept the fact that our students have grown up in a world dominated by technology. For them, multimedia forms are a central part of everyday life. This means that schools can no longer afford to ignore the impact that technology has on its students. We must adjust our pedagogical approach in order to address the role of technology and multimedia in modern education.
Students in the classroom today represent the first generation to grow up with new technology surrounding them since they were born. It has become common to see children from an early age learn how to use computers, smart phones, video games and other advanced digital tools. The use of the Internet, computer games, and instant messaging has become parts of students every day life. It is an obvious result that today’s students think and process information differently. My generation is considered the last pre-digital generation. As a future educator who will be teaching the 1st generation of digital natives I fear that there are many concerns about preparing students for life and the work environment. This paper examines how the technology available to students has changed the way in which they learn. In addition, I would like to look at the profound implications technology has on student education. I’m curious to find out if the technology available today is helping students le...
Every teacher has a different method of teaching. The teachers that I have had in my school career have been no exception. In this way, each teacher has set an example for me, as a future teacher, to follow or not to follow as I see fit. With the examples from my teachers and in continuing my education, I am developing my own method of teaching. I plan to use a combination of teaching methods in my own classroom. My method will be an eclectic approach because I will be using components of more than one philosophy. I will be using essentialism, behaviorism, progressivism, and existentialism.
Technology is Changing Education The best method for improving educational standards is to utilize every tool available, including state-of-the-art technology. Computers and the Internet have expanded the way in which education can be delivered to the students of today. Today's networking technologies provide a valuable opportunity to the practice of learning techniques. Educators are discovering that computers and multi-based educational tools are facilitating learning and enhancing social interaction. Computer based telecommunications can offer enormous instructional opportunities, but educators will need to adapt current lesson plan to incorporate this new medium into all the classrooms.
Throughout history technology has been the driving force of change. From movable type, to television, to the Internet, technology has been embraced and incorporated into our daily lives. Within the constructs of civilized society, the vast rewards of technological innovations have far outweighed the negatives. The digital revolution has altered conceptions of time and distance. It has created a wealth of information that is available at the stroke of a key. Not since the invention of the printing press has the distribution and consumption of information been so democratized. The rapidly changing technological landscape has put students and teachers in the cross-hairs. Can students be positively impacted by this digital revolution? Has the wave of technology that has swept through in recent years improved teaching and learning in the classroom? Utilizing various research tools such as Boise State University's Albertsons Library database, Google Scholar, and other online tools to access peer-reviewed journals, this paper will demonstrate that technology in the classroom results in increased student performance. great intro, Evan. -Barbara Schroeder 5/6/10 7:51 AM
Imagine someone born in the early 1900’s entering a modern-day classroom. They would likely be confused as to what televisions, computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices are. It is also likely that they would be overwhelmed by the instant access to information that the internet provides. Digital media has become a large part of people’s everyday lives especially with the rise of digital media in classrooms. Digital media is growing so rapidly that people who are not adapting to this shift in culture are falling behind and becoming victims of the “digital divide”, this is leaving people misinformed. Digital media has a large effect on the way that people communicate, this is especially evident in the way that students interact with
According to Marsh (2010) curriculum is “An interrelated set of plans and experiences which students complete under the guidance of the school or early childhood settings.”(p. 93). The curriculum is many things, it is a document containing a set of expected performance outcomes and content to guide teachers. Curriculum can also be the delivery of objectives and personal experiences to accelerate student learning (A. Smith, personal communication, April 10, 2014).
students prefer technology because they believe that it makes learning more interesting and fun. They especially like laptops and tablets. Subjects that students deem challenging or boring can become more interesting with virtual lessons, through a video, or when using a tablet. Technology occupies an important place within students’ lives. When they are not in school, just about everything that they do is connected in some way to technology. By integrating technology into the classroom, teachers are changing the way they used to teach (lectures six hours a day) and providing students with the tools that will take them into the 21st century. One of the characteristics of the modern classroom is collaboration and technology helps to empower it. With classroom technology students can collaborate with other students and their teachers in and outside of the classroom quickly and easily.
