Student success is controlled by how our institutions, both social and educational treat and educate students. Students respond to what they are given and shown by teachers and other faculty members. It is up to these institutions to deliver the utmost in academic excellence. There are standards and certain criteria that teachers have to teach according to state policy and procedures, but ultimately it is up to the teacher to deliver the best education possible to the students of the future. Certain schools are delivering the best of the best education and that is where they base their theories. One that is truly committed to improvements in the educational system of the United States knows that progress can certainly be made in a variety of different aspects. I have studied this matter extensively and know that a lot of the criteria that teachers have to teach is truly outdated. I strongly believe that most of the information that is taught in school that is considered outdates is simply no longer useful. History lessons are a great example of this. I was taught so many things in history class that have absolutely no application in the twenty first century. The explanation for this being the case is truly simple. These people did not face the same environment that we face today with massive technological advancements now upon us. In opposition to my belief is the fact that some students simply do not want to make the most of their educational experiences. The textbook entitled “Learning and Leading with Habits of Mind” makes this clear when it says that “students often give up when they don’t immediately know the answer to a problem.” It is because of this quitting factor that some education is simply not effective. The book goes on to state that “some of these students have attention deficits and others write down any answer to get the task over with as quickly as possible.” These are the types of students that make the educational system not effective. It is not the education that is taught but how students respond to that education. In the traditional school system, there are these types of students all over the classroom. It is more than obvious that not every student in the class is completely committed to obtaining the most wisdom possible from a lesson. These students impact the entire environment of a certain class whether the teacher intends for that to happen
Students spend a huge chunk of their lives in classrooms; the type of classroom helps or hinders them in life. Each student and teacher have reciprocal power; "reciprocal power enables teachers and students to undermine any attempt at domination by a single person in the classroom" (Pauly, 57). Students often use reciprocal power when they want to disrupt the class, screaming that they do not want to be in the class or do not want to learn. It is the teachers ' job to take that power back and show the class who is in charge of the classroom before all mayhem breaks
We live in a society where we are surrounded by people telling us that school/education and being educated is the only way to succeed. However, the school system is not up to the standards we want it to uphold. There are three issues we discuss the most which are the government, the student, and the teacher. In John Taylor Gatto 's essay “Against School”, we see the inside perspective of the educational system from the view of a teacher. In “I Just Wanna Be Average”, an essay written by Mike Rose, we hear a student 's experience of being in a vocational class in the lower level class in the educational system when he was supposed to be in the higher class. Both Gatto and Rose give their opinions on how the educational system is falling apart. What a society advocates will be reflected in the way its people interact with others, these interactions provide learning to all people. This is called non-formal education from the society. Society plays a significant role in education, it can influence an enormous affect on people whether, positively and negatively. The values, morals, and principles of a society create an education system that upholds the same values, morals, and principles. The responsibility of the American education system is the instill into children the knowledge and necessary skills to be a productive portion of the society. Numerous studies have shown that high school drop outs are much more likely to have a criminal record than those who have received their diploma. I think that the success of a society as a whole is dependent on the core education of the individuals who make up that society. If you can't provide for your family you will do whatever it takes to get the things you need. This is why it is imperative to create a base of individuals who are capable of sustaining a legitimate living.

Students are the future of our world, they really are. Society pushes them to “do well” in school for the knowledge, seeing as knowledge is power. But, how are we treating them in this modern era? Our education system is not abysmal but there sure is room for improvement. The education system is flawed due to teacher tenure, affirmative action, and a weak curriculum.

Schools exist to produce well educated youth that society will benefit from. From personal experience, ill-informed adults make for an unstable, rotten community. Schools hold a big responsibility. They should create a safe haven for students that creates a love for learning, and then also nurtures that same admiration for learning. Schools that students don’t feel safe in usually house students that aren’t interested in subjects that are being taught. They should maintain a well-educated faculty who is all passionate about what they do. If there is a lazy faculty, it will influence the students to become lazy. Education is a vital part of society. It serves the beneficial purpose of educating our children and getting them ready to be productive adults in today's society. But, the social institution of education is not without its problems. Continual efforts to modify and improve the system need to be made, if we are to reap the highest benefits that education has to offer to our children and our society as a whole.
The overall essence of education or knowledge acquisition is reflected in an axiom by Confucius which says “Tell me, and I will forget; show me, and I will remember; but involve me, and I will understand. Back then, it was clear that learning was a comprehensive process which involves passionate exchanges between students and their teachers; unfortunately this is not the case in most modern classrooms. Instead of the expected bidirectional communication between learners and teachers, in the modern learning environment there is a unidirectional system which involves the teacher incessantly hurling facts at students who, due to their passive roles as mere receptacles, have fallen asleep or; in the case of “best” students are mindlessly taking notes. This leads to a situation where knowledge has neither been conferred nor acquired.

Just like it is important for principals to respect and understand what their teachers need, students also need the support, understanding, respect and empathy from their teachers. When teachers demonstrate commitment in the classroom and set high expectations they raise the level of learning in the classroom. Teachers that work with the students and their parents to understand and meet their needs will achieve positive academic outcomes. Before, the education system used to have the best interest of children but instead it seems as if the professionals who work for the system cares more about the job qualifications than the true value of education and how well the people are attaining it. Public education uses to led the road to success, but after going through thirteen years of it and seeing what the public education system is all about, people have come to realize that it only affect others later on in life negatively.
Our nation’s education system strives through the hard work and dedication of its educators. Often great teachers, principles and supporting staff are drawn to the profession because they possess the desire to empower, inspire, nurture and watch young people grow - not only academically, but also emotionally. These people are there because they want to make an impact upon our society and the lives of whom the reach. Highly effective teachers are those who have taken learning to new heights by accelerating student learning, closing achievement gaps that persisted for decades, and promoting a mindset of change. Moreover, the presence of highly effective teachers in classrooms today continues to manifest as a result of the support from strong school leaders (U.S. Department of Education, 2013).
