Methods
The role played by teachers’ expectations on students’ academic ability has been an important topic of educational research for over 30 years (Trouilloud et al). Given that the instructor sets the tone of the classroom, their expectations can weigh heavily on students. The concept is called teacher expectation effects (TEE) and it can occur when a teacher’s expectations of a student affect teacher–student interactions in a manner that leads the student to fulfill the teacher’s expectations (Trouilloud et al). Given that this study in particular focuses on integrating previous to compare the implications of the findings. Important factors were the student’s academic performance, his/her characteristics, and teacher’s expectancy score. To measure the teacher’s perceived social competence the teachers completed the Social Skills Questionnaire from the Social Skills Rating System (Hinnant et al). The assessment composed of 48 items describing child behavior and each rated on a 3-point scale reflecting how often the participants exhibited each behavior. The last 9 items of this questionnaire requires the instructor’s judgments of the student’s academia or behaviors as observed in your classroom and must be compared to the other students in the class. In order to do so it will require information such as student’s prior year grades, test scores, family SES, behavior reports, expected grades from the instructor, each student’s final grades, and feedback from the Social Skills Questionnaire. Teachers will also be required to provide such information.
Design
The purpose of this study is to explore the notion that teachers can create a self-fulfilling prophecy therefore teachers will be required to complete the questionnaire and provide information of the students (student’s prior year grades, test scores, family SES, behavior reports, expected grades from the instructor, each student’s final grades). I understand that this design could be tedious for the teachers given that they will be responsible for all of the data collected however, to assure the student’s privacy amongst one another, the instructors responsible.
