Major league scouts had come to watch a shortstop whom they had heard was an excellent fielder and consistent batter. They were quickly distracted from this responsibility however by the performance of the man on the pitcher’s mound. Fernando Valenzuela was a pudgy teenage boy who had grown up on the dusty baseball fields of northwestern Mexico. From a young age, he had dreamed of playing professional baseball and he was about to get his chance. Less than two years later, he became the only player to win the Cy Young award as well as the Rookie of the Year award...
In the August 30, 1905 edition of Detroit’s Free Press, the sportswriters ran a small blurb announcing the arrival of a Detroit Tigers rookie, Ty Cobb. They stated, “Cobb left the South Atlantic League with a batting average of .328. He will not pile up anything like that in this league, and he doesn’t expect to” (Allen 177). Their prediction ironically rung true. Cobb hit better than their projected .328 batting average twenty times in his twenty four seasons (McCallum 217). Tyrus Raymond Cobb’s prolific career leads many fans and historians to believe that he deserves the title of greatest hitter of all time. However, some critics would argue that Ted Williams warrants this distinction. Unfortunately for Williams and his fans, the hitting prowess of Williams falls short of Cobb’s. While Williams arguably displayed a great hitting ability, Cobb remains the better batsman.
Jackie Robinson stands at front plate, with the bat gripped firmly in his hands. The crowd, rather than cheering, was booing and shouting at him. Racial slurs were throw before the baseball ever was, but Jackie kept calm. He couldn't let them win. The pitcher finally threw the ball. Crack! The ball sails over the stadium and the crowd is full of convoluted cries and shouts. Jackie jogged home. He had won that round.
Before he left, Janey and he were hanging out together, and Janey asked to read his palms, because she thinks she is some sort of psychic. Even though Jimmy thinks it is stupid, he lets her read his palms. She told him that from the “reading” she thought he would have a rough time on his trip. After this Janey tells jimmy that if he sees any cute Italian girls, to tell them he doesn’t speak their language. Jimmy promised he wouldn’t even look at any Italian girls. He told her he loved her and then they parted ways. Jimmy got home and said goodbye to his two sisters, and then rode to the airport with his mom. When they got to the airport his mom told him, “make sure to wash behind his ears and put on clean underwear” (pg. 42). Jimmy said goodbye and boarded the plane. This was Jimmy’s first time on a plane, so he was exited to take off. He was amazed as the ground became so distant it was barely visible. He read in a Sports Illustrated article that the American team was one of the favorites, along with the Spanish, Croatian, and German teams. The article talked about three main players on his team. After reading the article he watched a movie and took a nap. Upon arrival in L.A., coach Griffin was waiting for him. Coach Griffin drove him to UCLA, where they were staying, in a new convertible. He explained how he was trying to pick up all of the out of town players himself. He also told him he would be roommates

Paul Minor was on the mound, there was one out and a runner on first. It was then that Musial smacked a double down the right field line that was clearly fair. Lee Ballant, the first base umpire, called the ball a foul. The Cardinals players rushed the field and Solly Hemus and Eddie Stanky were both thrown out of the game.
Mike and Sklyer stuck with baseball and we all had a story to tell when we got back to school. That was our last day egging in Springfield. When we got back to school that Monday the car we hit was parked in the students section. We went to the same school and we didn't even know it. A couple of months later they got me back

I felt as though I was watching a train barrelling towards me, an inevitable bullet that had come tumbling out of the opposing pitcher’s arm. But instead I stood immobilized, watching my team's only chance of winning whiz by me. Strike three. I heard my team from behind me shouting “SWING!” with my mind screaming the same. But my bat remained unmoving, the pop of the catcher's glove like the nail into the coffin that was our defeat. All I had to do to keep our hopes of winning hope alive was swing, and yet I couldn't. I stayed on the field afterwards, tossing the ball up in the air and swinging away, landing it on the thick maple barrel of the bat.

The referee cannot eject them because they’re on the same team. Coach Wilcox decides to sit Danny and Jay for the rest of the game. The Rebels are down by two with only a couple seconds left. Terrell has the ball and
This was it. Kmiec had reached top speed when he met the ball carrier. When they met, Kmiec placed his right shoulder pad in the gut of the running back, making him lose his breath. Kmiec then wrapped his hands around the back of the ball carrier and pinned him to the ground. His helmet hit the ball directly, causing the pigskin to fly free from the running backs grip. Our free safety, Bob Goins, was right behind Kmiec and recovered the fumble on the North Park 25 yard line. The North Central crowd cheered and the North Central sidelines were in an uproar.
Amanda became his star pitcher. He also picked up an athletic kid named Kelly. Kelly was somewhat of a troublemaker, but he was a tremendous ballplayer. Kelly and Amanda were the stars of the team and their great play helped to motivate the others. The Bears eventually got better and ended up making it to the playoff, then the championship. The Bears of course ended up playing The Yankees. This was your typical David versus Goliath storyline.
