In the age of technology, humans are constantly relying on electronics for simple tasks in everyday life. These tasks include research, simple subtraction, and in some cases, communication. In result, computers and electronics play a major role in lives and in most jobs. These jobs are mostly white-collar jobs or jobs that usually take place in an office. Most of these jobs heavily rely on typing skills ranging from 35-200 words per minute. When employers are hiring, they don't see it as a requirement to type in one way.
The purpose of this experiment was to find out which of the two typing methods is the most efficient; touch or combined. An observation made about the topic is that the touch-typing method is very common and favored because

After gathering the materials, the researcher proceeded to the first step of the experiment. The first step of the experiment was to explain to the test subject that they will be completing a warm-up exercise and an official typing test two times using the combined method first followed by the touch typing method. After they understood what they needed to accomplish, the researcher had them go to http://typing-speed-test.aoeu.eu/, which consists of warm-up that counts their characters per minute. Once the webpage has loaded, the researcher instructed them to begin the warm-up using the combined typing method. After they finished the combined typing portion, the researcher had them complete the same warm-up exercise, but with the touch typing method. Once they had completed their warm-up, the researcher reminded them that they will be taking the official typing test two times. Next, the researcher instructed them to go to http://www.typingtest.com/index-v1a.html, which consists of a typing test that counts their words per minute. Once the webpage has loaded, the researcher had them modify the settings to “Aesop’s fables” in English for one minute. After they modified the settings, the researcher had them start the test using the combined typing method. When they completed the …show more content…
This was proven to be correct. The female participants typed at an average of sixty-two words per minute for the combined typing method, which had seven words more than the males’ average of fifty-five words per minute. However, when females used the touch-typing method, their average of fifty words per minute was six words less than the males’ average of fifty-six words per minute. The experiment was based on three trials and according to the results; the combined typing method proved to be most efficient for its average of fifty-nine words per minute. It was six words more than the touch-typing method that had an average of fifty-three words per minute. Although it is not a huge significance, it does not change the fact that the combined typing method was faster. In this experiment there was an error. The main error was that some test subjects were not familiar with the touch-typing method, affecting the results. A different approach that can be taken in the future is whether keyboards are a factor when typing. Another factor that should be changed is the amount of people and trials. The amount of people and trials should increase so that the results may be more accurate and reliable. What was discovered in the experiment is that even though most people use the touch-typing method, it does not guarantee an increase in speed compared to the combined
Today we live in a society where everything is seconds away from us. With the advances and affordability of quality technology, you would be hard pressed to find someone without a smartphone, laptop, or tablet, possibly all at the same time. Because of the accessibility we find that, in our tech-savvy culture, multitasking has not just become an art form of sorts, but rather an expectation. In the article “Multitasking Can Make You Lose…Um…Focus,” Alina Tugend sets out to explore the idea that although multitasking appears to show productivity, it could be doing the opposite. Throughout her article, Tugend uses studies done by neurologists and psychologists to show how in a world that sees multitasking as an expectation it has actually made us less efficient. She proposes, through studies, that although you might be working on multiple tasks it is as if you’re playing tennis with multiple balls (Tugend, 725).
It's taking over our lives. We can do it almost anywhere. What is it? It's texting! Texting is a reliable, easy and convenient form of communication that is most commonly used by, but not limited to millenials and those in the workforce. Many people use it as a way to express themselves as well. In Michaela Cullington’s article, “Does Texting Affect Writing?” she targets two different attitudes in relation to texting. Cullington explains that there is often an assumption that students who use abbreviations when they text, will bring those same abbreviations over to their formal writing pieces. Cullington then adds that the other attitude in relation to writing skills and texting insists that texting is harming student’s writing capabilities. Because of her research as well as experiments done by other colleagues of hers, it shows that
In the using of IT, I will be able to type easily than the normal paper, for example, I will be able to re-correct my spelling mistakes using the Microsoft word while I can’t erase or correct using the normal paper and re-write it on the paper. Using the IT I will be able to link, do correction thousand words or replace.
As was previously stated, The Handwriting Debate reveals that handwriting helps students retain memory more effectively than keyboarding. One study by Virginia Berninger, a professor of educational psychology at the University of Washington, compared students who took notes by hand versus classmates who took n...

The author notes that technology would affect the way people use their language in a matter of using abbreviations when texting. He also noted that messaging causes poor spelling and laziness when typing simple words on the phone. Teenagers have been creating abbreviated words since texting became popular; but abbreviated words have been around way before mobile phones were released. Crystal states, “people have been initializing common phrases for ages” (902), and
Early dominance meant not only that QWERTY became the standard, but that it stayed that way too. The layout became locked in by the quasi-irreversibility of investments in training touch-typists and in equipment, and by the high costs of conversion (1). In fact, numerous attempts to implement improvements to the layout have met with failure.
Although the typewriter is not as popular as it once was there are still a few people that enjoy using the typewriter over the new age computers, I know that I am one of those people. When it comes to typewriters and computers of course like everythin...
Due to the nature of this study, two separate, different, experiments were done with two mutually exclusive groups of participants. These experiments were based off of two key hypotheses. The first being that these researchers wanted to replicate a previous study performed on this topic, but in a more controlled manner (Sana, et. al., 2013). The second hypothesis that these researchers desired to test was how the multitasking of a classmate would indirectly affect a student’s learning ability (Sana, et. al., 2013). In their studies the researchers used the manipulation of either using a laptop to strictly take notes or to use the laptop and complete tasks while taking notes as the independent variable. The dependent variable for this study was measuring the student’s comprehension of the lecture material presented.
Multitasking, a practice used by many people to complete multiple tasks at once, seems beneficial to the user, but recent research shows that this practice causes more distractions. Alexandra Samuel argues in her essay, “‘Plug in Better’: A Manifesto”, that by getting rid of all of the distractions caused by multitasking, the time spent on the computer can be used more efficiently. As businesses in today’s world are using computers to help employees be more efficient in the workplace, each worker should only have to handle one task at a time to maximize their efficiency. Richard Restak argues in his essay, “Attetion Deficit: The Brain Syndrome of Our Era,” that by not diverting a person’s attention to multiple activities at once, such person
After inputting the task with both input methods, participants completed a questionnaire about their overall experience with the keyboard. 75% of the participants indicated

In this Journal there was a study performed on early childhood students and their reaction to touch screen computers. The results were more negative rather than positive proving that it was more productive to use the mouse and keyboard for young children.
The article ‘Technology: Myth of Multitasking’ emphasized the false perceptions about multitasking and explained the logic behind them. As indicated in the article, people desire the ability to multitask so as to become more productive and efficient. However, the author proposes that multitasking does not really exist except on two conditions. First, if one of the action or tasks is well learned hence not requiring tremendous focus or thought such as walking, eating, etc. second, if both tasks make use of different parts of the brain then they do not overlap in processing. For example, as indicated in the article, studying and listening to classical music are actions processed by different parts of the brain, therefore, they can be done simultaneously.
Technology has make our life more productive in many different ways. One of the greatest invention is Apple’s products. It leads an evolution of tablet devices. IPad or IPhone can act as a textbook, laptop, navigation, camera, notebook, gaming devices and more. It combines all the other devices into one which allows to manage our time effectively. “This is not a simple proposition, since our devices have become more closely coupled to our sense of our bodies and increasingly feel like extension of our minds” said Sherry Turkle. They are becoming part of ourselves. Perhaps some people are saying technology causes laziness because we are relying more on a devices instead of doing stuff by our self, but technology are intended to make our lives easier. We are still doing the same thing but in a more effectively way. Human race are moving on, we cannot stay in an era where people are still using paper map to find out the way, sending letter through the post office. If there is a natural selection in Human Evolution, there is also can be a natural selection in human’s behaviors, inefficient behaviors are being eliminating.
