Who is the Taliban and what was their terrorism based on? The Taliban, which translates to 'The Students of Islam' in Arabic, is a terrorist group that is mostly headquartered in Afghanistan, but they are also located in Pakistan. It is a Sunni Islamist organization that is led by a religious cleric named Mawlawi Haibatullah Akhundzada. Most of the Taliban is made up of Pashtun's which is the largest ethnic group in Afghanistan. So, the Taliban is a large terrorist group located in Afghanistan and Pakistan and their terrorism is used to spread the religion of Islam and to get rid of the people who don't believe in Islam or are non-Muslims.

The Taliban used guerilla-war styled tactics, which involved ambushes. Back then, they targeted civilians in an attempt to regain control over the land that was previously owned by US-led coalition forces (The Taliban's Killer Tactics). Later, they target police, military, and weaker targets in order to cripple the economic structure and to intimidate the villagers (The Taliban's Killer Tactics). They did this through sniper fire, suicide bombers, and roadside bombs. They also use large groups of informers to map out the movements of foreign troops. Terrorism is used to achieve a certain goal through terror. This refers to the way the Taliban used deadly tactics when they were trying to take control of the land, when they were crippling the old economic structure, and when they were trying to gain support through intimidation. These were all done to achieve the Taliban's goals of imposing Islamic ideas, getting rid of any form of foreign outcomes, and to make Afghanistan a pure regime. Thanks to how Osama Bin Laden boosted the Taliban's military powers by giving them a very large amount of money, the Taliban was able to change governmental conditions and embed Islam onto Afghanistan when they arose. They also did acts of killing others and destroying houses to make the ruling government lose support as it wasn't doing anything. The religious beliefs that encouraged the Taliban's terrorism were the two religious texts from the Quran that caused them to fight in order to obtain a reward if done so by believing in Allah. An interesting fact is that some people have been known to mistake the Taliban for Al-Qaeda, however, the two are separate terrorist groups.
