This unit assignment consists of two parts. The first part requires taking the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment test and then discussing the results (Human Metrics, n.d.). The results of my assessment test, suggests that I fall under the INTJ personality. Which includes the following personalities I possess and percentage of each trait. “Introvert (67%) Intuitive (25%) Thinking (50%) Judging (22%)” (Heiss, 2014). The result is overwhelming close to the traits that define me. However, "Trait approaches are much more common than type approaches in personality research today” (Friedman, & Schustack, 2012, p. 43). Everyone has a different way of learning things. Each of us focus on different types of learning material, no two students will look at information in the same ways. As a counselor, we can apply this awareness to our clients. Knowing that our clients have unique learning abilities, while viewing the same subject or an object, in a variety of different ways, beliefs, and/or crave a different outcome. Using this approach is something that can be beneficial to clients in my opinion. “Modern identity theorists often take a functional approach to personality; that is, they look at motivating behaviors and goals in order to understand the self that underlies them” (Friedman, & Schustack, 2012, p. 136). This method can be useful while evaluating the personality traits that our clients possess (Friedman, & Schustack, 2012). Discussing a treatment plan based upon Alder’s theory will be the final step of this assignment. Today, I have an appointment with a four-year-old, named Kate along with both of her parents.
