Operational instructions The operational or user instructions are an overview of how the system works for user reference and training. They are normally paper based however more manufactures are now publishing them in a digital format instead. They normally contain a table of contents, FAQ section, glossary of technical terms and details on the hardware. This type of documentation is aimed primarily at the novice user. Environmental documentation The environmental documentation is a detailed description of the environment that the system is able to work in, including heat, dust, vibration, moisture, electrical interference and/or magnetic fields. It also outlines requirements for the area such as if ventilation needs installed or if a specialised supporting foundation is requires for the application to be installed. Maintainability documentation Maintainability or technical documentation is intended for the maintenance of the system. The personal involved in the development of the system are not always employees of the company. Therefor it is important that technical documentation of the system is available should the system need changes made to it or be repaired after installation. Program instructions The programme instructions are a detailed set of documentation about the software used by the PLC(s). It includes a breakdown of the how the programme works as well as details on the software that would be used to modify the programme as well as how it should be done. Test documentation This is a report giving the details of the tests carried out on the system as well as the results of the test. It will also include an error that where found and how they were amended as well as any existing errors that are still yet to ... ... middle of paper ... ...he system without think about the consequences, introducing errors into the system or undoing existing changes already made. The goals of a change control procedure usually include minimising disruption to the systems processes, reduction in the number and frequency of backups required and cost-effective utilisation of resources used during the implantation of the change. This is also a very important piece of documentation as it outlines the procedures that should be used to minimise disruption to the systems processes, reduction in the number and frequency of backups required and promote cost-effective utilisation of company resources. This is a vital because it allows the customer to make changes to the system with as little disruption to the processes it is carrying out as possible and reduces the changes of compromising the system through improper changes.
