Syracuse, New York The city of Syracuse has many opportunities to offer its citizens. It is imperative to know what opportunities are available in order to get the most out of life in Central New York. As the heart of central New York, Syracuse is full of history, tradition, and community. Established in 1848, the city of Syracuse was originally centered on the Eire Canal, which made it a central communication point and an appropriate place to build new community. The city was originally called Bogardus Corners, but as the city began to grow, the postman suggested the change of name to Syracuse. The city of Syracuse is currently the home of 163,860 people who enjoy the benefits of culture, entertainment and a strong sense of community. With a population of over 160,000, the city of Syracuse is a reasonably priced place to live. In 1999, the median price of homes in the city of Syracuse was $85,000. The real estate value in goes up as you get to the outskirts of town, like the newest area of Wincourse. This area was developed in the 1970's. The government of Syracuse consists of a mayor and a common council. The mayor, Roy Bernardi, has served at the city's Chief Executive since 1993. He is responsible for all of the city administration and business. The city of Syracuse also has a ten member common council. The current president, Matthew Driscoll, and the nine other common council members, meet biweekly to create legislation and balance the 1.5 million-dollar city budget. An important aspect of Syracuse is the entertainment. The city of Syracuse is fortunate enough to be the home of 28th largest symphony orchestra in the country. It also has the honor of hosting the New York State fair, which is the longest running fair in the country. Other main sources of entertainment for the Syracuse community are Armory Square, which consists of restaurants and small gift stores; Columbus Circle, a more historic area that includes the library, the courthouse, the War Memorial, as well as various churches; and Clinton street, where many businesses reside. Back in the mid-nineteenth century, people moved to Syracuse for the business opportunities and today, Syracuse remains the home to many large businesses. The town of Orting is built in the valley of Mount Rainer in western Washington. Located 30 miles from the volcano, Orting is built upon deposits of 500 year old lahar erupted from the volcano. Mount Rainier is an active stratovolcano of andesitic rock, located along the convergent plate boundary where the North American Plate and the Pacific Plate meet. Mount Rainier is the most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States and is approximately 500,000 years old (The Cardinal). Although Mount Rainier is considered to be an active volcano because of its lahar flow, it is currently in resting state. The last eruption of this massive volcano occurred more than 115 years ago in 1884.

Santa Catalina Island, often known as Catalina Island, is located off the coast of Southern California, southwest of Los Angeles. Catalina Island forms part of the Channel Islands archipelago. Catalina is the only island, out of eight, that has been significantly developed. There are two major settlement location within the island - the city of Avalon and the unincorporated town of Two Harbors (“Visit Catalina Island,” 2014). Beyond the town boundaries the island is covered by wild life that it is owned and operated by the Catalina Island Conservancy ("The Official Catalina Island Website,” 2013).
This paper will discuss the many unique aspects of Oakland, California. Divided into five major parts, Oakland is a very diverse city. The five major parts include: Downtown Oakland which is located in the heart of the city, East Oakland which consists of the majority of the city, West Oakland, North Oakland, and the Oakland hills where the terrain is quite different from other parts of the city. While many may perceive the population to mainly consist of African Americans and Whites, there is a significant growing population of Latinos, and Asians. The topics covered in this paper will shed light on the city of Oakland itself, and discuss the unique city that it is. I will also give my personal experience and perception on the city, after living there for 16 years of my life.
Seneca Falls In the early 1800's, many of the women in the United States were plain and simple getting fed up with their lack of writing. Men had dominated everything in the past, and they were still continuing to do so. Women are finally ready to come forward and voice their opinions about how men and women are created equal. It is now time for women to go out and become what ever they want to be and not have to worry about the fact that they are females.

The mayor not only takes precedence at all municipal proceedings within the municipality but must also take the chair at all meetings of the council at which he or she is present. The mayor’s role extends well beyond officiating at council meetings or other municipal proceedings and includes providing leadership, promoting positive relationships, and modelling good governance.
This historically cultured area is a beautiful, yet expensive home for thousands of people. Hingham, Massachusetts generally remains quiet and free from any intense excitement and terror. While walking down the shores of Hingham one can hear the quiet crashing of the waves and look out and see the big lights of Boston. Hingham and the rest of the south shore act as a safe haven from the big city life.
When you associate anything with New York City it is usually the extraordinary buildings that pierce the sky or the congested sidewalks with people desperate to shop in the famous stores in which celebrities dwell. Even with my short visit there I found myself lost within the Big Apple. The voices of the never-ending attractions call out and envelop you in their awe. The streets are filled with an atmosphere that is like a young child on a shopping spree in a candy store. Although your feet swelter from the continuous walking, you find yourself pressing on with the yearning to discover the 'New York Experience'.
