Bullying is a very old concept, one that can be traced back to the sixteenth century, if not earlier. The word bully has changed its meaning multiple times over the years due to growing resurgence to those who bully people who are weaker than them. Due to this more and more people are getting involved in school and communities across the nation to teach kids about how to stop bullying.

Much of the work in tackling bullying is by arguments and disagreements between people about how we should define bullying. If you look in the dictionary you will see bullying is defined as ‘‘Bullying is the wilful, conscious desire to hurt another and put him/her under stress". But then your hear someone ask "Is it bullying when two people of equal strength fight constantly outside the school ?" We may not want fighting in our schools to happen and would want order in the school so this wouldn't happen, however this is not considered bullying. Researchers have suggested that bullying is when someone is stronger or has more power than someone and continues to bully them for a continued amount of time.

There are two other reasons that may help us to identify bullying. One of these focuses on the feelings of the target of aggression.The practical point is that one should always listen first to what the victim has to say. A sense of being oppressed is a necessary but not sufficient indicator of whether bullying is taking place. The second consideration requires that we focus on the bully. Normally one would expect a sense of triumph or pleasure at achieving the desired effect of causing, injury or discomfort. But we also have to take into account whether or not the bully shows remorse for his actions.

Hopefully this essay can help kids and parents who don't know what bullying is and want to know more information about it. I also hope this essay can inspire kids and parents to get involved in the community so we can stop bullying from happening because less bullying means a better world for our children to grow up
