In Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe uses the literary devices of symbolism, dialogue, and detail to reveal both the tradition and the challenge of tradition to the Igbo people.
Symbolism is used to show the tradition of the Igbo people. First, the slaughter four goats to have more than enough food for the people of the village. Second, they break kola nuts to show respect. Third, they not only bring palm wine, but they bring pots of it showing how important the feast is. The people of the village are known for having big feast.
