Lincoln Electric was founded by brothers James and John Lincoln. Starting out with an initial investment of only $200 and an innovative idea, Lincoln Electric is proud in saying that have been around for well over a century and still thrive as being the best in the business. That is because of the values Lincoln Electric was founded on in the 1800’s that have been carried on and continuously applied in their company today. When comparing the information found about Lincoln to the descriptions of organizational structures in Chapter 8 of our textbook, I’ve concluded Lincoln Electric has an innovative organizational structure. An innovative organizational structure is characterized by being flexible, adaptable, and open to experimenting with new ideas. Every aspect of their company can fit up under this organizational structure. Their lax in use of a formal hierarchy structure and excessive titles contribute to this reasoning. The emphasis they put on developing new ideas and using updated technologies also support this organizational structure.
This company was built on an innovative idea, and they have sense lead the market by continuing to produce more innovative ideas including the way they manage their company and value their employees. Their products and services also continue to stand out because of their high quality and low costs. This innovative organizational structure has allowed for Lincoln Electric to become a very successful company and organization world-wide. Lincoln Electric had excellent labor relations where an “open door policy” was implemented between executives and employees. Under Lincoln’s incentive system, the workers were rewarded for their productivity. The employees’ earnings and promotions were determined in direct proportion to their individual compensation towards the company’s success. This served as an effective system that motivated workers to be more efficient and increase the productivity of high quality products with reduction to costs. The company was founded in Schenectady, New York to capitalize on the patents of Thomas Edison and the use of electric power through generation and distribution. Now a blue chip publicly traded company that has branched out beyond its core into arenas such as aircraft engineering, television, and home appliances to name a few. Over the years the corporation has been through different management models that have brought innovation in many forms that have allowed them to be envied by companies around the world. Despite great success since its conception, like many companies who can withstand the test of times, it’s natural for them to become self-absorbed, which can have a negative impact on the company structure as a whole. Coming across someone like Jack Welch who can think out of the box and in a manner that doesn’t strain the resources of the company but expands the thinking of the company as a collective unit is needed to continue the legacy of innovation in all aspects of business.

E. has developed a management strategy that has penetrated the complex boundaries between management stages. Not only does GE have training programs available for its managers and employees, but for their customers as well. In my opinion Lincoln Electric Company is successful because of many factors; there is a general, clear knowledge and understanding of mutual respect and cooperation among all the people working at Lincoln at all levels.
Upper management collaborates with the employees represented by the Advisory Board and the have an open door policy which allows employees access to anyone who is capable for providing them with the necessary assistance or information if needed. The employees share the company’s vision and values. This is reflected in the low turnover rate and the minimal supervision that is needed while maintaining high productivity and efficiency. The job security that Lincoln offers can be attributed to high job satisfaction as there are not many companies where you are guaranteed a job or adequate hours. Because of this Lincoln’s organizational culture is strong. A strong culture is difficult to change however there is no need to change Lincoln’s culture as it has been working for over 100 years successfully and shows no indication of failing. The culture is heavily influenced by the values of the founders who implemented many of the policies and procedures which are in place today.
