Barangaroo is a suburb located in the city of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. This suburb is on the northern side of Darling Harbour and southern side of Sydney Harbour Bridge. Barangaroo was part of the territory of the Cadigal people1, the traditional residents of the Sydney city region. It was established in 1788 as Cockle Bay Point and name as Millers Point in 1820 and finally changed to Barangaroo with area of 2200 hectares and population of 189 people2.
In 2003, the NSW Government announced that the stevedoring wharves at East Darling Harbour would be transformed into a new urban precint3. An international design contest was launched in 2005 with 139 submissions from all around the world. To the southern end, only a few minutes’ walk from Wynyard Station, world class dining, retail, commercial and residential prencints are located here, which will provide high level services.
Once complete, more than half of Barangaroo will be dedicated public space encompassing a 2km continuous harbour promenade, expansive parklands, plaza and coves.
Barangaroo will support a projected target of more than 24000 jobs, provide a home to 3500 residents and contribute $2 billion each year to the NSW
