Behind every great doctor there is a hard working technologist. She is skilled to know all different kinds of things. Coming out of high school, a student is supposed to know what they want to be, or study in. Making money is everybody’s top key in life, but who wants go to go school for 8+ years to be a doctor? How about being a technologist! There are two very different technologist, there is one for humans and animals. Though they seem so different they have lots of similarities. They both need to know the techniques of different surgeries and they are known to be under appreciated. Veterinary and surgical techs may be different in many obvious ways, but there is way they are a lot similarities. They work beside a doctor all day and make sure everything is ready for surgery. Technologist are to know the difference of surgeries, different doctor techniques, and all the different tools. The doctors won’t admit it but, the tech is their right hand girl. Only people who have worked there, or opened their eyes can really see how much a tech really works. There can be a bond between the tech and the patient that the doctor doesn’t get to have. They both care very much for the patient and just want to see improvements for him. Technologist relay the problems back to the doctor to help the doctor see the issue. I have always been fascinated with the medical field ever since I was little, my first choice for electives were always health science and anatomy classes. After my cousin, Deanna, had her first child and receive her first ultrasound, I knew that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. The ultrasound technician had made her feel so comforted and just made the entire experience enjoyable for everyone; I’m eager to be able to start my life with a job that I know I will love. Anytime that I meet someone who is in the field themselves, I always ask questions and listen to what they do throughout the day to get some real insight on what being a technician really entails.
Veterinary technicians are like the techies of the theatre; the organization would be able to function without them, but it would be much harder. Things run a lot more smoothly with vet techs. There are multiple benefits that come with being a veterinary technician. These benefits include, but are not limited to, a high job outlook, great room for advancement, and only two years of schooling (depending on the route you take). Above all, the animals, who aren’t always able to help themselves, are being taken care of.
A vet tech can work in different work environments, such as animal hospitals, and private clinics. Working in various, environments create skillful tasks, which include: lab work, radiology, nursing care, surgery, x-rays, and assisting veterinarians in surgeries (Money Careers). Each of these tasks require their own abilities helping needy animals, for example: lab work deals with collecting samples of tissue, blood, and urine, nursing involves with taking care of the animals after the surgeries and checking on how their responding to the procedure (U.S. Bureau of Labor).
Humanity has relied heavily on animals for millennia, for everything from food to transport, companionship and entertainment, and as such animal welfare is a topic that is hugely important to us as a society. My passion for the preservation of animal health coupled with my love of science has set me up perfectly for a career as a veterinary surgeon.

Veterinary technologist do allot and this job is very popular. They do everything except surgeries, prescribe drugs and make official diagnoses. I have been in healthcare for about 6 years now. I started off as a nutritionist in a hospital setting, working with patients of all health statuses. I worked closely with doctors to determine what meal plan would best suit each patient. I went to work day after day to meet a new group of patients who were previously admitted the night before; very rarely did I work long term with one particular patient. Although I enjoyed helping people change their eating habits and educating them on how to better their health, at the end of the day I felt like there was something missing; I wanted more.

I chose the Da Vinci Surgical system as my topic because I am interested into going to physical therapy or into the orthopedics field after undergrad. Surgical equipment is highly important due to the hundreds of accidents that happen and also the high percentage of diseases. As these incidents occur it is important to consider the safety of the patient when it comes to cutting into their bodies. It seems like each year that passes by, there is a new technological advancement that modernizes the medical field. Not only do these advancements modernize medicine, but they in return aid doctors, nurses, and specialists by improving their effectiveness within the field. About ten years ago, the da Vinci Surgical System was introduced to hospitals and the medical field, in general because the FDA had finally approved the system within the United States (Dunkin). The da Vinci Surgical System, also known basically as robotic surgery, introduced the use of a surgical robot, which is operated by the doctor himself using a controlled manipulator (Declan et al.). Prior to the invention of robot-assisted surgeries, most surgeons simply did a typical laparoscopic surgery on a patient. Laparoscopic surgery is “a type of surgery performed through several small incisions, rather than one (or more) large ones as in standard "open" surgery” (Schmitz). By convention, the field of healthcare research was entirely occupied by physicians and doctors. They were the ones who came up with new methods to treat diseases and get better results from diagnostic tests. Technology, on the other hand, was always looked at as a way to solve problems that we faced that didn’t pertain to the medical sector. It was employed to enhance the quality of life and make day to day work easier. But as technology progressed, so did the areas of application. The structural balancing techniques which were previously used to hold a building steady were now being used to develop near-perfect artificial joints and prosthetic limbs. Transparent polymers, developed to enhance robotic vision, were being suggested as a candidate for an artificial lens for the human eye. Before anyone could even understand what was happening, engineering had taken up the mantle to further medical technology to dizzying new heights.
