It was the morning of November 14th, 1959 in Holcomb Kansas, Herbert clutter inspects his ranch as his family goes about the day. On the other side of kansas that morning Perry Smith meets up with Dick Hickock, after a long drive they eventually pull up to the clutter home with a knife and a shotgun. In Cold Blood takes place in holcomb, kansas in 1959 revolving around the murder of the clutter family. Alvin Dewey is in charge of the investigation. Dewey has no clues, except a footprint and a missing radio. He suspects more than one murderer was involved. He is unsure of motive, because there was little money in the house that could be stolen. Clutter were tied down and shot in their own beds, Mr. Clutter was tied down in the furnace room, his neck was slit, and he was shot in the head. Kenyon was tied down to a couch in the basement and shot. Bobby Rupp is a suspect until he passes a lie detector test. KBI think it may have been someone close to the family. Capote learns early on that Dick and perry are the murderers but decides to keep it to himself due to lack of evidence. Once KBI Agent al Dewey finds out he decides to keep it out of the media as well. Capote comes to the conclusion that the motive was that Dick Hickok was misled to believing that there was a safe on the property by his former cellmate named floyd wells. Dick and Perry run away to Mexico after the murders but soon come back when they have blown through all of their money. They return to Kansas City because they think that is the best way for them to get more money. While Perry remains worried about being so close to the crime scene, they make their way to the town, where Dick runs his scam and gets some money, and the two of them leave without incident. By returning and again leaving Kansas without incident, Dick and Perry become convinced that they will never be connected to the Clutter
