Qiaoshuang Jiang u0807983 There is not too much material about the technique of Chinese Brushwork. So when facing situations, it cannot be told or explained well enough. In the article, the author tries to break them in four main parts and explains in details. They are four tools of the brushwork: the brush, the paper, the ink and the ink stone.
The Brush
The brush is made by animal fur. The most common furs are weasel, deer, rabbit and goat. Depending on the type of the furs, the brush can be classified into two categories: Chian Hao and Jou Hao. The Chian Hao has more flexibility, while the other one-Jou Hao is softer than Chian Hao. Many professionals prefer to use Jou Hao because of its softness but hard to control. Also, some people that are amateur may choose Jou Hao because of its cheaper price. Overall, Jou Hao or soft-type furs can bring creativeness and interesting lines when doing the Chinese Brushwork. The brush head is also very crucial part on the Brush. It needs to be dried and inserted into a hard and straight handle, for example, bamboo, wood, horn, ivory or even porcelain.
The two main types of brushes for professional artist are not only Ta-Kai Pi, for writing larger characters but also Hsiao-Kai Pi for writing smaller ones. Apart from that, there are also the extra large ones for large sign writing, also known as Kung Pi. Ching Ts’a is made of hemp, broom grass, or bamboo threads for painting large plants. Dou Pi and Lian Pi are good for painting larger physical objects and also for writing couplets or other large things. The medium size large brush is called Kai Pi and it is useful for both painters and calligraphers. Hsiao Tze Pi is a smaller one for everyone. Finally, the painters of Kung Pi style u...

The inkstone
The inkstone is also another important part of the Chinese Calligraphy. It is usually made from natural rock and mostly in rectangular or round shape to grind the ink. For most people, a small inkstone is fine. And for professionals, they will need a large one to use. The material of the stone is usually slate or silkstone for the purpose to grind enough and good ink. Before starting the painting or writing, One will need to prepare the ink paste. The Water and ink is needed depends on what you are going to write. If it is a short note, one will only need few water. In contrast, one will need more ink and water to be prepared.
In addition to the four tools, there are still some other things that necessary to professionals, for example, the brush holder and rest, the water cistern, the brush washer, the paper weight, and the table cloth.
...ist must keep his tools scrupulously clean. The brushes are dipped and wiped throughout the painting session with brush cleaner to keep from contaminating colors with residue from previous paint. Use a beater rack to remove excess thinner from brushes after cleaning them.
His brush stokes are small and careful in the portrayal of grass to create the illusion of wind flowing through it. What also gives the grass a sense of “softness” is that the man looks comfortable enough to take off his shoes comfortably walk through it. Even though the brush stokes look small and soft he is still able to create the texture of stone on the house chimney, the bark on the tree, and the wood on the wheel barrel with these small careful strokes. The painting almost looks as if it would be soft to the touch and the mediums used have a lot to do with it. The gesso panel on wood makes the surface of the painting even and the paint glide easier across the surface, leaving no clumps of painting anywhere.
...nt to use while doing body work because they do most of the work for you. Air hammers with a selection of chisel heads is a required tool for auto body when replacing body panels on a vehicle. Grinders are something nice to have as well they come in air and electric and when you get past grinding cutting with them you can put a buffing head on them. An electric drill is a thing that you will need for drilling holes and along with the drill you will need drill bits and other bits. A wire brush is a thing that will clean up parts after you are done with them or they clean up chrome and aluminum really well. An air compressor will be needed to run all of the air tools it is recommended that you get a bigger one for the fact that most tools will run the smaller one down and out to fast and you will have to take breaks to let it catch up with your progression.(book four)
Chinese Scholar artists like Chen Rong disapproved of the painting media of their professional contemporaries, opting to use black ink on paper, as opposed to the otherwise popular color on silk. The simplicity, of plain black over the simple backdrop of widely available paper, appealed to the Confucian and Daoist Scholars. As such, Chen Rong painted his Nine Dragons on a large paper scroll with black ink. (Little)
Unlike any technique mentioned above, etching includes the use of acid (185). In order to explain this further, the three step process is: One, a metal plate is covered with an acid resist liquid such as wax or resin (185). Two, once dry the artist scratches the surface off with a needle (design takes place here). Lastly, step three, the lines are put into acid which eat away exposed areas, deepening the designated impressions (186). Rembrant, with his phenomenal use of cross hatching, created a work called Christ Preaching. His piece is one of the most remarkable etching prints
Qiu Ying had a special talent for duplicating famous paintings and thus, his work was in great demand. However, for the most part, his paintings were different and inventive, novel and witty, while staying within the parameters of acceptability. When considering why Qiu Ying copied Zhang’s Along the River During the Qingming Festival, there are three main purposes: First, Qiu Ying may have appreciated Zhang’s work, and the outstanding detail and the composition of this painting, so he may have copied this painting as a means of preserving old compositions. Second, to copy this painting, the artist needs to have skill and dexterity to balance the whole composition and every detail, therefore, Qiu Ying may have copied this work to practice the ancient techniques of the craft and to develop his personal style. The last reason why Qiu Ying made duplicates of famous masterpieces is that collectors in the Ming period had a compelling desire to own famous antique paintings, even if only in reproduction. Furthermore, it is possible that Qiu Ying wanted to show his love of Suzhou
It will define that Zhang used traditional Chinese charcoal drawing aesthetic to show the subtext of his artworks in contemporary Chinese art. Chinese is one of the branches of Sino-Tibetan family of languages. It is said that there are seven major languages in Chinese languages (Joseph 2004:7) . They are Cantonese (Yue), Fukiense (min), Gan, Hakka, hunanese (Hsiang), Mandarin, and Wu. Basically, there are three stages in the development of the Chinese language. They are Old Chinese, Middle Chinese and Modern Chinese . For each stage, it can be further divided into different intervals (Fig 1). Within different intervals, varieties mentioned above occur. However may be some of the bones and tortoise shells were not perfectly preserved that inadequate information was available for analysis, there is discrepancy between different references concerning time and therefore no exact boundary could be made between each development stage. There is only a rough estimation made by those who studied the history of Chinese Language. Besides, Joseph (2004:16) also said that due to the lack of data, most descriptions of family relationship among Chinese languages are based on impression.

“Paper-cut is an important form of Chinese folk art which can be traced back to an era before paper had even been invented, where artisans patterned fastidiously intricate veins into leaves of gold or silver foil, leather or silk through engraving, embossing and cutting. The invention of paper during the Han Dynasty prompted the transposition of these skills to the new material, giving birth to modern paper-cut” (Wang, 2013 : 124).

The words also have this form of mixing with each other that gives it a special from to the way it looks for both arts. Calligraphy also has this special meaning because they say writing words last longer than saying them. When Brent says “Another metaphor of calligraphy is that “writing is the tongue of the hand.””(p.92) The reason they say this is because they think that written words last longer than saying it. When you say something it only last for a short time compared to something that is written that lasts for a long time and it can be read again and
The simplistic art of contemporary drawing has always been concerned with making marks. Different artist exploit lines to make marks, which come together to express or create a feeling the particular artist is communicating. Drawing or making marks has been around longer than any other art form as cavemen where the first to discover the art. Since this time artist have been able to manipulate line and colour using not only pencil or graphite, but using charcoal, ink, water colour pencils and micro pens, creating a mixed media artwork classified as contemporary drawing art. The artists Keith Barley, Caitlin Hackett and Kiel Johnson all have very unique styles of drawing and the language of these artists have been expressed through the heaviness, tightness and looseness of their emotive contemporary drawing. Even though there are many different media’s for artworks today, most artworks start from a simple pencil drawing that has been later developed and expressed through different media which has categorized drawing as the foundation of artwork of the 21st Century artist.
