Misogyny is the dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women. It’s not a new thing for men to be singing about women in a bad way. Hip hop has always had a problem with females, they have been seen just as sexual objects or accessories for a long time. Kubrin stated that “gender stereotypes are abundant in popular music, where women are often presented as inferior to men or are trivialized and marginalized” (13). Some examples of misogyny are; violence towards women, sexual acts performed for men, and derogatory names for women. Many people believe that men use misogyny in hip hop for many reasons. Greenspan explains “that men may use it to; assert masculinity, demonstrate authenticity, reflect main-stream attitudes, or use it for commercial success” (2).
