Ivanka Trump’s latest book, Women Who Work, has raised controversy as to whether this book is beneficial to the modern working woman. Women Who Work, is a self-help book that contains essays by business people and advice from Ivanka Trump on achieving self-actualization. However, being the daughter of a wealthy business man prevents Ivanka Trump from empathizing with readers. Trump claims this novel as initiative to inspire working women in all dimensions of their lives. The main flaw within Women Who Work, is that it glamorizes the American working woman and fails to recognize the ones working in low-wage service jobs.

Its success relies on the failure of people. It depends on the lack of ability for citizens to overcome circumstance and rise through socio-economic classes. That is not to say that the work force is not incredibly dependent on high paying jobs such as CEOs or managers of business. It does however seem to perpetuate and foster a lack of humanism as documented in Nickel and Dimed. A system where people find themselves stuck and therefore face discrimination, dehumanizing practices and a lack of adequate pay.

Throughout these five medium I have found a multitude of problems that are a part of this culture we live in. First of is media within itself has a controlling images over women and we don’t even know because everywhere we look were being bombarded with new information about what we should think everyday.
Judy Grahn wrote “The Common Woman,” which displays the difficulty of breaking free from traditional female work. Grahn wrote that she “… [hoped] that these combinations would help break current stereotypes about women and the work we do” (641). Yes, in the book Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich did face problems when working minimum wage jobs. In each state, Ehrenreich works with different people, but having the same problems in the end. The challenges she faced was the different people she worked for, who seemed not to care about their employees as long as they came to work and did what they were told to do. The rules and regulations at each job were different, and never the same. All her fellow co-workers’ personalities were different.
