The Maine gun facility functions as General Dynamics core production site for single and multi-barrel aircraft and crew-served weapon systems. In order for General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products to be able to stay on top of the market and be available for any Department of Defense customers, Mike O’Brien, the vice president and general manager of gun systems for the company knew that the company would have to grow. The growth would consist of capital investments of $5 million in equipment. The growth of capital investments in equipment would be paired with Six Sigma process, and this would allow the company to get extra efficiencies. The first step in implementing these changes was making the company more focused on providing greater capacity to support MK19 and M2 production lines. General Dynamics hired more than 60 employees to work in their productions lines. General Dynamics also knew that advanced technical training for new employees and existing employees would be needed.
