In the sixth century before the Christian era, religion was forgotten in India. The lofty teachings of the Vedas were thrown into the background. There was much priest craft everywhere. The insincere priests traded on religion. They duped the people in a variety of ways and amassed wealth for themselves. They were irreligious to say the least. In the name of religion, people followed in the footsteps of these cruel priests and performed meaningless rituals. They killed animals and performed various sacrifices. The country was in great need of a reformer. At such a critical period, when there were cruelty, degeneration, and unrighteousness everywhere, a reformer was to be born to save the people, and disseminate the message of equality, unity and cosmic love everywhere.
Buddha was born in 560 B.C. and died at the age of eighty in 480 B.C. . Buddha's father was Suddhodana, king of the Sakhyas. Buddha's mother was named Maya. The place of his birth was a grove known as Lumbini, near the city of Kapilavastu, at the foot of Mount Palpa in the Himalayan ranges within Nepal. This small city Kapilavastu, stood on the bank of the little river Rohini, about a hundred miles north-east of the city of Varnasi. As the time grew near for Buddha to enter the world, the gods themselves prepared the way before him with celestial portents and signs. Flowers bloomed and gentle rains fell although out of season. Heavenly music was heard, and delicious scents filled the air. On the body of the child bore at birth, were thirty-two auspicious marks (Mahavyanjana) which indicated his future greatness, besides secondary marks (Anuvyanjana) in large numbers. Guatama’s mother Maya died seven days after her son's birth. He was brought up by his aunt Mahaprajapati, who became his foster- mother.
On the birth of the child Siddhartha, astrologers made predictions to his father Suddhodana. "The child, on attaining manhood, would become either a universal monarch (Chakravarti), or abandoning house and home, would assume the robe of a monk and become a Buddha, a perfectly enlightened soul, for the salvation of mankind". Then the king said: "What shall my son see to make him retire from the world?" The astrologer replied: "Four signs". "What four?" asked the king. "A decrepit old man, a diseased man, a dead man and a monk - these four will make the prince retire from the world" replied the astrologers.
Gautama Buddha (Philosopher) – He was also known for his full name Siddhartha Gautama. He was born on c. 563 BCE or c. 480 BCE in Lumbini, Shakya Republic which is presently known as Nepal and he grew up in Kapilavastu. His father, Suddhodana, was the dominant of the Shakiya clan and his mother, Maya, was a Koliyan princess. Buddha was a wise person and he influenced the Buddhism teaching.
Sources on the Buddha's life indicate that he was born around the 6th century BCE. The events and conditions of his conception are miraculous. Tradition reports that the Buddha's mother, Maya2, had just returned from the Festival of the Full Moon in the month of Asalha3, when a deep sleep overcame her. During her sleep, she envisioned a beautiful white elephant approaching her. The Mahavastu Pali texts relate the elephant as being: light of steps, flawless of limbs, gleaming like snow-white silver with six tusks, and a gracefully waving trunk and crimson head.4 The elephant, holding a white lotus in its trunk, circled the queen's body three times, and then entered into her womb from the right side.
The Buddha had lived a sheltered childhood. Before the Buddha was born, “his mother dreamed that a white elephant entered her womb” (“Buddha” Compton’s) and soon after she became pregnant (“Buddha” Compton’s). In the sixth century BCE in Lumbini (present day Nepal), the Buddha was born. His birth name was Siddhartha Gautama, and his father was the king of the Shakya people. His mother, Queen Mayadevi, died a week after giving birth
It is generally agreed that the Buddha was born in 563 BC in Kapilavastu to the ruler of a small kingdom. He grew up with luxuries and had a sheltered life. When he was 29 he came to realize that hi life up to this point had been so empty. He let go any earthly attachments and soon set out to find peace and enlightenment trying to steer away from the cycles of rebirths. He started practicing Yoga and "adopted a life of radical asceticism." He soon gave up this way of thinking and focused on "a middle path between the life of indulgence and that of self-denial." After a time of great inner struggle, he began to wander to different places and preach and organized a monastic community know as the sangha.
Prince Siddhartha Gatuthama (the Enlighted One) or simply known as the Buddha he was believed to have been born in 563 BCE or between the 6th and 4th century BEC , in Kapilavastu, Nepal or around east India. His father did not want young Siddhartha to see the pain and heartache of the world, kept him in a very sheltered life, Siddhartha father built him a palace where Siddhartha was sheltered from religion and the heartache of the world.
Before Siddhartha's birth, his mother, Queen Maya, had a dream where a radiant white elephant entered her womb as she sat on a divine couch prepared for the queen by the gods. Queen Maya awoke and summoned sixty-four eminent Brahmins and the Brahmins examine her dream and told Queen Maya, "A son is to be born to you. And if he lives the household life, then he become a universal monarch, but if he leaves the household life and retires from the world, he will become a Buddha, the awakened one (Mitchell ...
Siddhartha grew up living an extravagant life of a young prince and was raised in luxury to be protected from harsh realities of life. His father was the ruler of the Sakya people. It is said that Siddhartha’s father had summoned fortunetellers to tell of his son's destiny. The fortunetellers’ had two very different predictions for the ruler – they stated that his son was destined for greatness and could reach this greatness two different ways. One prophecy stated that if kept sheltered from the world, he would become the “Universal King” and unify India by being the greatest conqueror. The other prophecy said that if he were exposed to the world, then he would emerge as a great religious leader and redeem the world. Scared that his son would become a monk Siddhartha’s father decided to create a world where his son would never experience the world completely and shielded him from all kinds of suffering and hardship. He hired only beautiful young people to work in the palace and when Siddhartha would go outside the palace riding he would have the streets clear prior of any sickness, death and of all elderly people.
Siddhartha Gautama, also known as Gautama Buddha, or just simply the Buddha was born in what is now known as Nepal sometime between c. 563 BCE and c. 480 BCE into the caste system with his caste being the Kshatriya, the caste of royalty or the military elite. He was born to Śuddhodana, a head chief of the Shakya tribe, and Maya, a princess. Siddhartha’s father held a naming ceremony for a five day old Siddhartha where eight Brahmin priests predicted that Siddhartha would either be a great holy man or a great king. The prophecy was correct as Siddhartha Gautama has one of the largest impacts on Asian culture by creating the fourth most popular religion in the world that is still active
Death, its such an unexpected thing that happens to everyone at some point in their life. Some people die old, some go young. Others go without warning, just disappear from our lives without explanation. No letter, note or goodbye, they just leave us to never return. Death, or in this situation suicide. Such a horrible thing to the average person to lose someone that way. Never knowing why they did it, left with loose ends that will never be tied up. For others its a glorious thing, the accept it as a way of life or something that has to be done to “save” them or their family. Suicide is looked differently in a particular culture compared to how americans see it. The samurais see it as honor to them or their loved ones after dishonoring them. To them its not something to be feared but to be excepted, death in this form will bring back honor so that their families don't have to suffer in their lives. In America though suicide is seen as such a horrible thing. We don't understand why someone would take their life so soon, what would push them to decide to end their life? Most americans fear death, they can't stare him in the eye and except what is going to happen to them, but some few stare at death and welcome him. Every person, culture, state, country sees suicide in a different way. Either in Peace, honor and respect or as something unexplainable and all too sudden, some might even just see it as something that happened and never second guess it. How ever a person and place may view it we are all impacted the same way.
The story of Eric James Borges is not for the faint of heart. Eric was a 19-year-old filmmaker from Visalia, California who was constantly tormented and bullied for the fact that he was different. The bullying of Eric Borges began in kindergarten when many of the other students began to see Eric as different as he didn’t like girls. Eric’s experience progressively got worse as he reached higher education. His middle school and high school years consisted of him being mentally, physically, verbally assaulted by other students on a day-to-day basis for his sexual orientation. Students ostracized, stalked and physically assaulted Eric leading to the development of his severe migraines. Eric dropped out of high school and graduated early by independently studying after other students in a classroom physically assaulted him with a teacher present. The beginning of college was not any better for Eric as his mother performed an exorcism on him in an attempt to cure him from being gay. College simply caused Eric’s suicidal thoughts, self-loathing and mental depression to increase. After officially coming out as a sophomore in college, Eric’s parents told him that he was a disgusting and perverted. Only two months after Eric came out, his parents kicked him out of his own house. Eric began working as a freelance speaker, a published writer, a supplemental instructor at the College of the Sequoias while working as an intern for The Trevor Project. Eric soon filmed a video called “It Gets Better” in support of LGBTQ youth but took his own life one month after filming the video.

Self-injury is a term which describes a variety of behaviours in which there are two critical elements: the damage is acute and the damage is intentional. Self injury is generally an unhealthy effort to cope with overwhelming emotions, such as intense anger, rage, terror or shame. There is often a distinction made by psychiatrists between attempted suicide and self-injury as these acts are most often done without suicidal intent. The damage caused is generally severe enough to leave a bruise, scar or other mark, or cause health issues.
Suicide amongst young people has increased greatly in the past 25 years in the US( young men and women 15-24) Women and suicide has increased the least with 250 percent, men has soared to over 300 percent. The US is now ranked the highest in the world for suicide. Until recently suicide amongst the young men and women accounted for less than 5 percent of suicide. It has increased with the increase in population of youth. Young men 15-24 now account for more than 20 percent of the male suicides.
Have you ever known someone who’s committed or tried to commit suicide and thought, “I wish I would’ve done something, said something, to stop it from happening?” I know I would ask myself that question everyday if I hadn’t. A few years ago, a good friend of mine thought her life was so bad she wanted to end it. I did the only thing I could think, and told the nearest teacher. It may sound so childish or stupid, but it worked. Luckily, she’s still alive and well. I’m here to make sure you can make the difference and help a person who might be, or is suicidal. Just think of what would happen if you didn’t try to help.
