Sufism is also known as Islamic mysticism. It deals with special powers that are mentioned in the Quran. It is a more philosophical approach, where a person tries to become one with nature and feel the power of God. A person who belongs to Sufism is called a Sufi. The word Sufi comes from the Arabic word ‘Suf’ which means wool. Sufism believed that the Quran and Hadith have secret meanings of mysticism. The word mysticism can be defined as the consciousness of the one reality, also called wisdom or love. Sufism has become widely popular in India for mystical practices and thoughts.
Sufism developed in the eighth and ninth centuries in three major places:
1) In the cities of Basra, Kufa, and Baghdad in Iraq.
2) In the city of Balkh in the Khorasan district of Persia.
3) In Egypt.
The origin of Sufism goes back to the Prophet Muhammad who received the Revelation known as the ‘Quran’. He is regarded as the first Sufi master who passed his mysterious teachings orally to his followers who also received his special grace or barakat (Armanios 1).
The Muslim shrine of the Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya is the famous Sufi saint of the chisti order in India. He was popularly known as Hazrat Nizamuddin. His shrine is located in Delhi, which is a popular attraction for Sufi followers. The devotees come from different part of the world for Ziyarat. The Ziyarat is something that people go to the saint’s grave and pray to give the soul peace. The devotees are not only Muslim but also Hindus, Sikhs and Christians. Sufis believed that if they pray to the saint, they could get closer to god and also cures many diseases or pains. For example, there’s a Baoli, a large well in the shrine where devotees go there and have a bath with that well water, as a saint’s karamat or blessings. Which shows the Nizamuddin’s living presence. “Muslim shrines in Indo-Muslim thought is the belief that they emanate the saint’s blessedness, a spiritual quality that survives after their death” (Saniotis 3). It is believed that saint’s blessed his devotees by full filling their desires and cures devotes with spiritual powers.
The second attracting Sufi shrine is the Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz shrine, which is located in Ajmer, India.
Sikhism and Christianity are two very popular religions in the world today that are practiced by millions. They each have their own origins, beliefs and practices that are custom to their own religions, and some that are shared by other religions. Each religion founded by different people, Guru Nanak for Sikhism, and Jesus for Christianity, had their own upbringings, beliefs, and legacies that they left behind. Though the lives and teachings of Jesus and Guru Nanak may seem different at first though when the early lives, teachings & late lives and religions today are looked at closer, they start to resemble each other.

South and East Asian religions are more closely related and focus on a person’s actions and experience to guide them in life as opposed to emphasizing on a supreme being. These religions are more philosophical and less authoritarian than southwestern religions that primarily focus on a single supreme deity to lead them in life and are more dictatorial. South and East Asian religions such as Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Taoism are centered around one’s behavior and are more adjustable to one’s perception, while Southwestern religions are not.
Islam is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion alongside Judaism and Christianity. It is currently the second largest religion in the world today. Its beliefs come from the Qur'an which literally means "the recitation" which is believed to be a literal transcription of the word of God. Its main prophet is named Muhammad who began Islam by speaking with the angel Gabriel in a cave during his meditation and then acting as an instrument of God to help write the Qur’an. Muhammad then spread Islam to the scattered tribes of Arabia by becoming the leader of Yathrib and using his wonderful leadership abilities to then grow his influence over virtually all of Arabia. Muhammad is known by Muslims to be the seal of the profits because no profits after Muhammad should be considered legitimate. Muhammad also left behind the Hadith or “tradition” which is a collection of writings compiled of reports of Muhammad’s actions as leader of Yathrib. These reports are used as a more specific code of ethics in day to day life and from these reports the 5 Pillars of Islam are derived (Smith 160). Although Islam shares many similarities to Judaism and Christianity it is often viewed in the US with hate derived from preconceived notions following the attack on September 11th 2001. This paper seeks to provide an overview of Islam’s history as well as its two major sects and 5 main pillars to remove preconceived notions and provide a glance into the minds of the Islamic people.
When I was a kid my parents always took me to Nathdwara to take the blessings of Lord Krishna every now and then because my parents are so religious. So by going there several times I am also attached to that place. Actually Nathdwara is situated in Rajasthan state and I live in the state called Gujarat and in the city called as Ahmedabad. It takes six hours drive from my city to Nathdwara and this is the only nearest place where I could get mental peace. This is very important place for me and my family because it is a tradition of our family that whoever goes there gives free food to the hungry and poor people. We do so because we think that if we do good work in our life we will be allowed by god to go to the heaven. [The two states on the left are Gujarat and Rajasthan. One in light blue color is Gujarat with the arrows and on the top of it with cream color is Rajasthan. I live in the middle of the state and Nathdwara is at the border of the Rajasthan]
Hinduism is easily the oldest major world religion that is still in use today. It has not only survived countless attacks but has also thrived and has changed little to none in the last 2500-3000 years. "The Aryans are said to have entered India through the fabled Khyber Pass, around 1500 BC. They intermingled with the local populace, and assimilated themselves into the social framework. The Aryans did not have a script, but they developed a rich tradition. They composed the hymns of the four vedas, the great philosophic poems that are at the heart of Hindu thought" (The Aryans and the Vedic Age, 2004, par. 2).

The large piece of architecture symbolises love to many who come and visit this Mughal era architecture. May tourists who visit feel peaces and calmness overcome them and they fell overwhelmed by the beauty of the Taj Mahal its significance that it embodies the cenotaph of Shah Jahan’s wife Mumtaz Mahal and when Shah Jahan died three decades he was also laid to rest next to his beloved wife. It is also said that the ‘coffins bearing their remains lie in the spaces directly beneath the cenotaphs’ (Kapadia, 2015). Also after the addition of the Taj Mahal into the world heritage site in 1983, the Taj Mahal started to receive more worldwide recognition and soon became one of the most famous and favourite tourist destinations in the world today. It is said that the Taj Mahal attracts over one million visitors both local and foreign per year. Most people in the world derive their religious beliefs and traditions from their parents and peer influences. From a religious point of view, “There are many definitions for the term ‘religion’ in common usage. [Broadly defined], in order to include the greatest number of belief systems: ‘Religion is any specific system of belief about deity, often involving rituals, a code of ethics, and a philosophy of life’” (Robinson, 1996). However, in examining Hinduism, it is difficult to label the practices as a religion. This paper will expound upon the Hindu traditions, taking into account the characteristics of sacred elements, their meaning, and significance.
Hinduism is a very complicated religion from an outsiders prospective. When I think about it I never have really given any thought to what Hinduism is, so what is this religion, what do they believe in, what are the social and cultural influences and what is the desire for liberation from earthly existence?
Hinduism is the world’s third largest religion and was originated in the Indian subcontinent. Is rare that a big religion like Hinduism don’t have a single founder, religious organization, specific theological system and don’t even a system of morality, but it is a religion that has evolved over thousands of years. Hinduism has a diverse body of cultural and philosophical practices. Hinduism consists of belief and tradition. The most recognized belief and traditions of the Hinduism are Karma, Dharma, Samsara and Moshka. Hindu people don’t believe in violence, but they do believe in prayers, honesty, truth, austerity, celibacy and penance. The Hindu scriptures are collectively referred to as the Shashtras. The Hindu scriptures were initially passed on orally from generation to generation until finally ancient scholars wrote them down; mainly in the Sanskrit language that was the prevailing language of the time. Some of the Hindu scriptures are the Shruti and Smritis. The Shruti primarily refers to the Vedas which represent eternal truths revealed to ancient sages but some other Hindu individuals associated the Vedas with a God or a powerful person. The Smritis are all of the other text different than the Shruti. The most know of the Smritis are the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. Although the Hindus worship a large pantheon of Gods and Goddesses, they believe in the one Supreme Power that manifests itself in various forms.
Taj Mahal. ( Mahal is the word in urdu language used for Palace) How can I describe The Taj Mahal? You can’t its impossible. You just have to experience it. To gaze in wonder at that magnificent dome and elegant gardens will be a moment that you remember for the rest of your life. It is one of the greatest sights in the world, some say the greatest, and like Victoria Falls, The Grand Canyon, and Macchu Picchu, it simply is one of those things you have to see in your life. The architectural grace and symmetry of the Taj Mahal just takes your breath away. We had chosen our visit carefully--the sun was setting and the light that washed over the Taj was golden in color. The minarets were now stark against the setting sun . The actual dome was a surprise, it is not yellow-white but blue-white and covered in inscriptions and detail. From below it looked like something out of "Arabian Nights." But inside were the tombs of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan. The central tomb is a lofty chamber with light streaming through fine latticework, and hanging above was an elaborate lamp. Words cannot describe its beauty when you stand on that marble platform overlooking the Yamuna, with the setting sun turning it into a golden ribbon. You may a...
