What Is Success? Success is not earning a fat juicy check at the end of each month, or being a part of a large social group filled with fraudulent people that appear as familiar faces. But it is a person discovering him or herself after they had been lost and establishing a sense of purpose that makes them fills them with a warm glowing sense of accomplishment. Success does not have one transparent definition, it has various meanings depending on what success means to the individual trying to achieve it. Success is surviving. Accepting reality is crucial to becoming successful and surviving. Whether it is accepting the death of a loved one or accepting the reality that you will never go home, accepting reality is always the first step. Jack London, author of To Build A Fire claims “You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club”. London is explaining that change does not happen by itself, you have to make it happen. Which is exactly what Cheryl Strayed and Chris McCandless did. Cheryl saw what was wrong with her life and she was unsatisfied so she changed it. And Chris packed up and left society behind to accomplish what he set out to do. She became successful in that she found herself and her sense of purpose, sadly Chris had his epiphany too late and was not as successful as Walking into a dangerous situation without the right number of people or amount of equipment can determine whether you live or tragically die. The protagonist in Jack London’s To Build a Fire decided to set out on his journey alone and when it came down to it, he could have survived had he brought another person with him. He was slowly freezing to death and could not build a fire to save his life, if another man was with him, they might have been able to help assist him and his chances of surviving would have been much higher. “He was a newcomer to the land, a chechaquo, and this was his first winter” (London). Which gave him the appeal of being a newbie and since it was his first time, he did not come prepared enough. Another man who made the mistake of traveling unprepared was Chris McCandless, Chris packed lightly, almost too lightly in fact that it would be another leading cause of his death. It may not be “what’s in your pack that separates the quick from the dead” (Gonzales), but it does not hurt to come prepared. Nobody is sorry they brought enough equipment but people are sorry if they didn’t bring any. There is no concrete definition for success, and there is not a foolproof way to obtain it, but it is something many strive for. In Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell explains, with examples of successful people throughout history, that hard work along with a little bit of luck and willingness to seize every opportunity is the only way to become successful. Malcolm Gladwell illustrates throughout the story external factors that are mostly uncontrollable and internal factors like hard work that are very controllable lead to these outliers and unimaginable success stories.
Earth is a planet filled with upwards of seven billion people. Most will only meet one hundred thousand, and many will not meet even that many. Each and every one of those people have their own life experiences, and each and every one of those experiences are valuable sources of information. When making decisions, it is incredibly important to consider these experiences. Simply disregarding them all is selfish, idiotic, and deadly.
Success can be an extremely broad subject. There is an abounding amount of different views on what the “true” definition of success is. Personally, I believe that success is finding happiness. Success is waking up in the morning and not having to worry about whether or not the bills are going to be paid this month. Success is having a job that you enjoy going to every day. Success is having friends and family who love and support you. Success does not mean that one has to be exceedingly rich or have a lakeside mansion. As long as they are happy, they have succeeded in life.
Over thousands of years people have been driven by success, but what is success? Success to me is the ability to perform at your highest level in the path in life that you take. I believe that if you are not driven to be the very best at the things you do then it is not a calling. There are plenty of opportunities in life and you should take everyone you get. Success could also be defined as, the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. It determines if you are satisfied with certain aspects of your life, for example, your appearance, your personality, your abilities and your relationship with others. Usually, people are very judgmental with themselves comparing themselves with others and making decisions about themselves based on the comparisons that they made. Most people feel bad about themselves from time to time. To become successful, you have to possess some factors that makes you stand out.

Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Success can be measured in many different ways. Some people may measure success by being financially stable, obtaining knowledge, getting a college degree, or having a high paying job. While those are all important goals leading to comfortable life, I would consider my personal description of success to be unlike many others. I value the relationships in my life above anything else. I direct my motivation towards my relationship with God, my spouse, family, and my friends. The people in my life are most important to me, because of the deep and intimate relationships I have with them. My goals in life revolve around the people in it, instead of material things or myself.
The setting that the man was in was cold. It was colder than 50 degrees below zero he should've never been out there in the first place. The old people of the village told the man that you don’t travel by yourself when it’s 50 degrees below zero. But the man didn’t listen and look where he is at now. I mean those people learned how to stay alive in the Yukon. Why couldn’t the man listens and understand that. They also said that you should always have a partner no matter what.
What is success? Is it the process of doing a task and receiving a positive result acceptable amongst the community, or is it simply achieving ones own personal goals? Success to me can mean many things. Although I am successful in school, that does not necessarily mean I will lead a successful life.

Success is a term that varies between individuals and different situations. For me, I have my own definition of success. Success is defined by exceeding my personal, academic, and economic goals that I have set for myself.

Here, Mary is looking at the positive aspects of the word success, stating that something good is bound to emerge from success. My two friends are quoted as using “success” for “when you have accomplished all of the goals you had for yourself” (Grace Ireland). Or “when you are satisfied/ the happiest with a goal that you put effort towards” (Samantha Schmidt). As quoted, Grace and Samantha have a similar definition like Mary but the main difference here being that the accomplishments are specifically goals. Although both Grace and Samantha use the word “success” to mean achieving a goal, I use “success” to mean the knowledge gained from learning from a failure. Not everyone has the same definition of success. As Pablo Picasso once said, “Action is the foundational key to all success”. Picasso’s definition of success is one that makes sense to me because hoping for success is only an idea with no method to carry it out. Or is living as the epitome of success stressful and unenjoyable? The definition of success simply depends on the type of person you are, but I believe that success has been mistaken as a materialistic element. Someone with an impressive job title or an excessive amount of money is not always deemed as successful, due to the fact that they might not be happy with their life. They might want a higher job title or more money. Success is personal and its definition will be different for everyone.
