Success isn't something that comes without a trial and error. Everyone has tried and failed, but the feeling when the failure turns into success is one that nobody will ever forget. When people think of success, their brains instantly go in the direction of famous people with load of money, but that is not always the best example. One may be content living in a shack with their unconditionally loving dog, not a worry in mind, and consider themselves as successful. Others may only consider themselves a successful person if they are making over 300,000 dollars per year, living in a 4,000 square foot house and leave with a different set of keys in hand each day. Success is all about perspective, because success is something that people earn; it is not just handed to them like candy on Halloween night. The harder a person works, the more successful they are in the long run. Success, determines one's
Success is defined differently by every person. I believe that Emerson's poem "What is Success?" accurately embodies my definition of success. To me success is not about how much money a person makes, the type of car he or she drives, or even the type of dwelling in which he or she lives. Success is changing just one person's life for the better.
Every day people wake up and go to work to make money to provide for themselves and their family. Not only do they try to be sufficient to buy things and provide what is necessary, but they also try to be successful. But what exactly defines something or someone as successful? In my opinion, society’s view of success today is incorrect. Today success is measured by how much money a person makes, the brand of clothes they wear, how expensive and cool the car is that they drive, and how big their house is. The amount of money and the value of possessions should not express how successful or unsuccessful a person is, but rather any accomplishment, big or small.
Do you know someone rich and famous? Is he confident, popular, and joyful all of the time—the epitome of mainstream success? Or, on the other hand, is he stressed, having second thoughts about his life choices, and unsure about the meaning of his life? I am willing to be that it is the second one. Mainstream marketing and media have effectively brainwashed our society into accepting a false, even potentially dangerous definition of success. Marketers want us to believe that having lots of money, living in a big house, and owning all of the latest cars, fashions, and technology is the key to happiness, and hence, success. This overstated, falsely advertised myth is hardly ever the case in real life. True success requires respect, appreciation,
Success can mean so many different things to so many different people. For someone, success can mean being rich. For another, success can mean being educated. Many people have different ideas of success. Where, however, can success be found? Can you just wake up one morning and already be successful? The harsh truth, is no. You can’t just wake up successful. You have to actually work hard (which some people in our generation don’t understand). Where and how can someone work to be successful? What are the steps a person in this generation can take, in order to be successful in the future? One thing’s for sure, success cannot be found while sitting on your couch, scrolling through Facebook… sorry.
Success is not earning a fat juicy check at the end of each month, or being a part of a large social group filled with fraudulent people that appear as familiar faces. But it is a person discovering him or herself after they had been lost and establishing a sense of purpose that makes them fills them with a warm glowing sense of accomplishment. Success does not have one transparent definition, it has various meanings depending on what success means to the individual trying to achieve it. Success is surviving.
Firstly, what is success? Success can be seen as the self-satisfaction of knowing you did your best to be the best that you can be. This definition, developed
Success means to live a life in alignment with what brings us real joy. In my case, “success-joy” comes in many guises. At times, in being persistent with my current dreams, others, investing time and energy in what makes my life shine, and that is, without a doubt, when my life is at service of humanity and when I cultivate happy and healthy close relationships. I tend to define success as a state of being, a constant process of unfolding rather than a place to arrive. It is the journey of getting to know ourselves, in order to fully occupy every aspect of what we are; a forever changing aspiration, a state of being in which we realize that life’s greatest rewards spring from our capacity to relate to adversity in innovative ways. I have also discovered that real success shows up again when we debunk and deconstruct every single stereotype and assumption we have about ourselves. In this way, we feel capable to challenge what is commonly accepted as wisdom and then we have the opportunity to change and integrate our values with greater ones. There is an enormous joy when we feel free to play with the possible new scenarios that our imagination and creativity compelled us to try. A successful state of being is alert and grounded within us with the certainty, that the choices we embark on are in resonance with what we consider is the truth of what we are in that precise
Success is something that everyone wants to achieve. By many peoples standards how successful you are depends on how much money you make or how famous you are but, it is so much more than that. Throughout the years my personal definition of success has changed completely. When I was younger my idea of success was when my parents handed me a lollipop for cleaning my room; now, it is the feeling of being satisfied with myself and all the work I have completed. The feeling of completing something and knowing you did a good job by feedback or just being happy with yourself is the real definition of success. Through the On Course textbook it has helped me to develop this idea of success and how to maintain it.
What is success? To every person it means something different. To some it could be a raise in status. To others it could be more materialistic. Then it could be something as simple as happiness. Me? Happiness determines my success. That is what drives me to be successful. I know that if I can wake up every day, look at myself in the mirror and smile, then I am successful. But what is happiness? If I am going to relate happiness to being successful then I have to figure out the actual meaning of happiness. By definition happiness is,” The state of being happy.” The definition of happy is,” Feeling or showing pleasure or contentment.” So happiness is a feeling. There is no one set meaning to it. Everyone perceives being happy differently.
