Culture constitutes common characteristics of a particular group of people or a society such as behaviors, beliefs, objects, and any other characteristics of such a people. It is thus through culture, that groups of people define their unique characteristics that conform to their shared values and contribute towards building the society as sociologist suggests. Therefore, culture includes different societal aspects such as the customs, language, norms, values, tools, rules, products, technologies, morals, institutions, and organizations. The theory of social construction of reality thus showcases the general understandings of the environment as perceived by different cultures and the general correspondences as depicted by the realities of such a culture. Through experiences, individuals in time create different models of the social world and through the use of language, they communicate and ratify the general understanding as depicted by the people. This ensures that each and every individual understands their place in the society and as such their duties for the development of the same. Perhaps then we can then understand the development of subcultures through reviewing the society as perceived by different people. Some of the behaviors characterized by certain groups of people forming subcultures that are determined by social aspects such as sexual orientation, ethnicity, and racial can be regarded as deviant in some societies. Therefore, deviance can be defined as going against the established cultural, social norms, and contexts within a certain communities. This deviance is sometimes established as crime in some societies. The deviant behaviors thus depends on factors such as the audience, location, or on individual basis in regard to the act in question. Additionally, the development of cultures has been characteristic of social control, and as such, as new subcultures rise, they provide for a threat towards the social constructs as determined by such cultures. Developed over time, culture is the collection of beliefs and values that a group of people maintain together. Culture is never constant, and thought to be continually renewed over years as new ideas and concepts become mainstream. Punk subculture ultimately challenged society by believing in anti-establishments and promoting individual freedom. Although punk subculture could be described as a new trend in society or as a new type of conformity, it ultimately influenced British civilization in a positive way. Even though punk disrupted and altered society’s views, it did not subvert the British culture completely. Punk subculture was an influential movement that changed humanity for the better. First, Punk did this by giving people courage to speak up and rebel. Second, Punk challenged the British monarchy. And lastly, Punk was mainly about “Do It Yourself” items. This taught children that one did not have to have designer clothing. Leather jackets, ripped jeans and worn out shoes were just as good. Punk was a culture of misfits and outsiders. It welcomed everyone who did not care about following others but liked being an individual.

Everyone is different in their own unique ways. We are characterized by what we wear, what we look like, how we walk, and how we move. We are also characterized by our likes, dislikes, hobbies, and more. In addition to all of this, each one of us is characterized by what culture we are a part of. We represent that culture and its subcultures in unique and interesting ways. Today, I will share with you what subculture I belong to. I belong to a subculture of gaming, and I will talk about how, when, and why I participate in this culture.
In Subculture Theory many theorists were interested in explaining delinquent gangs, which were believed to be the most common form of delinquency. The Subculture Theory was made up of several different theories that were all related to each other. Subculture theories provided explanations of how groups of individuals develop similar values and rationales for behavior (Williams & McKay, 2014). One theory within Subculture Theory was called the delinquent subculture theory by Albert Cohen. Another theory in the Subculture Theory was the differential opportunity formed by Richard Cloward and Lloyd Ohlin. The third theory by Walter Miller used direct observation of social groups in their natural setting. All four theories were interest in of the Subculture Theory could develop (Williams & Mckay, 2014). The last major theory was very different theories and was created by Wolfgang and Ferracuti. All these theories in the Subculture Theory were very different but were all related in some way.
When an individual breaks the societal rules of conduct, they are said to be involved in deviant behaviors. However, due to the dynamism of the societies, what may be regarded as a deviant act in one society could be regarded as normal within another society. This brings out the issue that deviance may be viewed as relative to both time and location with regard to the differences in societies. Out of this understanding, deviance is viewed as the violation of social norms out of any acts, thoughts, or attitudes that the particular society regards as violation of its values or rules (Long Russ). A deviant conduct is against the definitions of the good and bad conduct as agreed upon by members of a social system. Such behaviors are in a negated direction and bear enough magnitude to surpass the acceptance and accommodation limit of the particular community.

All these aspects are quantitative variables in time, space and across the settings. In contemporary social life they intertwine between each other and relate to law and deviant behavior.

The patterned quality of youth subculture builds a discourse of subculture, which the youth and the academics recognize. In the late 1960’s, Punk culture emerged and evolved rapidly astonishing the world. It evolved into a thriving subculture. This subculture was based on the rejection of the established values, norms and the institutions in the society. The established values, norm and institutions were considered insipid and hence, the youth flaunted their non-conforming and anti-government beliefs. Consequently, in the decades since the emergence of punk subculture, punk subculture has become ubiquitous in the realm of society and many changes, albeit slowly, have occurred to make it common part of the mainstream of the society.
By the mid-1970s something was stirring. When music became way too safe, punk emerged to challenge everything. The first “punk rock” scene appeared in New York in 1973 (Harry 8). The Punk Era resurrected culture and music over a thirty year period. With angst, rebellion and outrageous ideals, punk coalesced into an international movement. The punk rock culture is something everyone has been exposed to due to the colossal impact of new ideologies, fashion and music carried for over forty years and into the present day.
Culture can be summed up as the behaviors, attitudes, customs, and beliefs combined in a society at a given time and place. Culture joins people by establishing a common ground. There are many common elements that result in the formation of cultural subgroups such as religion, family traditions, and the arts. The two most important cultural elements that have influenced my own social group (for better or for worse) would be communication styles and roles within the family.
Cultural studies closely concentrate on how a certain phenomenon connects to matters of ideology, race, social class and/or gender. Cultural studies expresses concern with everyday life practices and the meaning behind everything. One of the main aims within Cultural Studies is to go deeper with what is known to be natural to society and strong beliefs to society; there will be examples of everyday life practices such as the things we’ve naturally known because society has created meaning to it such as trees, PMS and the biological determinism society once believed to be natural, these examples will show how and why it is important to critically interrogate these practices.
Culture is the totality of learned, socially transmitted customs, knowledge, material objects and behavior. It includes the ideas, value, customs and artifacts of a group of people (Schaefer, 2002). Culture is a pattern of human activities and the symbols that give these activities significance. It is what people eat, how they dress, beliefs they hold and activities they engage in. It is the totality of the way of life evolved by a people in their attempts to meet the challenges of living in their environment, which gives order and meaning to their social, political, economic, aesthetic and religious norms and modes of organization thus distinguishing people from their neighbors.
