When doing my video assignment, I did it in a ninth through twelfth grade high school social studies classroom where I substitute teach, and I had the classroom teacher video tape me with a video camera from the school. I had the student desks set up in a half circle, so I could walk around to do frequent student checks. I left a gap in the back, and had three students sit on each side of the video camera, so everything would be captured on the video camera. The video camera was set up on a stand, so all he had to do was slightly move the camera to catch my movement and interactions with students. I also had an extra student to record me using the video button on my iPhone. I wanted to do this so I could have two different sources and perspectives to look at. I had them record my class objectives, me reading an article on alligators and asking questions to my “4th grade” students, who helped me fill in our animal flowchart. This is where I ran into my first problem, I thought that it would just pop up, but apparently Xmind has to be downloaded to every computer that you want to use it on, so I just decided to create our own handwritten flowchart, since it would have taken forever to download the document from Xmind. After this, I gave them directions to the computers to start a summary and reflection in their blogs on WordPress, then directing them that they are now going to begin researching on their very own animal using a blank flow chart that was exactly like the one I used as a template to take important notes on, then I just wrapped it up by saying I was going to have you do your research on a certain animal of your choice and you would have to choose a form of media to present it to the rest of the class.

In my Teaching Professions with Field Experience class, we were to create two lesson plans throughout the semester; one that involved the use of technology and the other without. The rules that went along with the lesson plans were as follows: the speaker is supposed to act out the lesson that they have prepared and their classmates were supposed to act accordingly to what grade level the lesson pertained to. Lastly, during the presentations, the students were to write three good qualities the speaker or the presentation had. In addition, they had to write one wish which was something a student thinks would make the lesson better. For the first project lesson I constructed, I incorporated the use of technology to discuss the identification and use of monochromatic colors for the sixth grade level.
As we discussed the potential of such software we realized this might be a way for our students who missed class to not miss out on learning. Thus, we began to record our live lessons using screen capture software. We posted our lectures online so our students could access them. When we did this, YouTube was just getting started and the world of online video was just in its infancy. In all honesty, we recorded our lessons out of selfishness. We were spending inordinate amounts of time re-teaching lessons to students who missed class, and the recorded lectures became our first line of defense.

I want to inspire my students to think outside the box and to ask questions. Society needs thinkers not robots. The classroom plays an important part in aiding the growth of an individual. It is my duty as a teacher to impart knowledge because ideas have a way of changing lives. Examining and discussing ideas with students allows them to move to a new level of understanding, so that ultimately, they may be transformed.
Students need feedback, clear expectations, and a schedule to follow throughout the day so that teachers spend less time directing behavior and more time is spent actively engaged in learning. There should be more time consumed on strengthening positive behavior and fewer on the negative.
