Students who participate in Athletics benefit in many ways from participating in sports. Whether it makes them a multi-task better, become a leader, or just improve as a person throughout. Athletes are constantly being coached and guided by a person who has been through their shoes and is far more experienced in life than the athlete. Studies show the importance of coaches to athletes “A qualitative analysis of the data revealed that the coaches perceived the enhancement of student athletes’ personal development to be an important part of their role” (Banwell and Kerr). What most people don't know is the amount of effort and hard work that is given off by student athletes. This causes them to get far in life, due to the drive they have in themselves to push themselves to their limits. Student athletes are simply not just focused on their athletic performance, but how they do in school too. “a senior and four-sport athlete at Belding (Mich.) High, is set to graduate No. 1 in her class with a 4.2 GPA and 16 varsity letters—four each in volleyball, basketball, softball and track and eld. But arguably the most impressive number on her résumé is four: the number of dogs she has trained” (Fenwick, Alexandra, and Ted Keith).While being a valedictorian is already as difficult as it gets, being a top athlete at the same time would just be a miracle. This student athlete isn’t just a regular student. She is a prodigy, someone that will be successful in life due to the skills she has earned and learned about while in high school. Through athletes and academics this girl has managed to achieve something very little people have, Even after having the following notable achievements, she also manages to participate in extracurricular activities such as training dogs. The many ways that participating in sports and school at the same benefits student athletes will never be possible by a student that doesn’t participate in athletics. As many people know, parents put their kids in sports at a young age, not for them to get injured or healthy. Rather just so their kids will learn a lot about competing in a sport, the skills they achieve from participating in a sport goes a long way, especially in life. Athletes will always remain to be leaders and not followers, since they have to set the path for themselves for success. Athletes cannot be babied since they have so many things going on, it is very tough for another person to manage their life for them. As a result they have to manage most things by themselves such as managing time. Athletes continue to receive more opportunities to succeed than non student athletes, since there is such a high demand for them in today’s society that craves having high level professional athletes. Most importantly, they will develop more social skills and life skills than a normal student due to the extra curricular activities they participate in. It’s tough being a student athlete but if they manage to survive and meet all the requirements, they will prosper in life, since athletes are known for being hard workers.
