Many people enjoy the sport cheerleading, and would love to know how to do the perfect toe- touch. In cheerleading, jumps such as, a Toe- Touch, Herkie, pike, and hurdler are a major requirement. I remember the time I tried out for the cheer team, I was terrified. I didn't know how to do anything, but a split, and a cartwheel. There were many girls there who had experience, and there were some who didn't, just like me. As i watched all the girls prepare for the try outs, i asked someone to teach me how to do a toe- touch. If you do not have flexibility skills this process may take longer than usual. Before you begin your jump, you should always stretch. Stretch your legs and arms in as many ways you would like. Stretching helps prevent any injuries that may occur during this process. After you have stretched well, you are ready to begin your jump. You will start off by, putting your hands together; as if you're clapping but with a tight grip. Your hands should look like they’re hugging each other, and your elbows should be touching one another. Next , On your tippy toes; raise your arms above your head. Your arms should be slightly in front of you so that you can see your hands without tilting your head up. During this step, your hands should still be together; as if you're in a touchdown position, only difference is your hands should still be connected. Immediately after, lower your arms down to your chin with your hand still clasped together. Then cross your arms right over left. Your body should form a uppercase letter “ T “ position. While doing the previous position, jump bringing your legs up as high as you can. In this position your body should look like a bent uppercase “ I “ . Your toes should be pointed, and arms should form the uppercase “ T “ position you’ve done in the previous step. Finally , when landing; Be sure to end with your legs together, and stand straight
Because some cheerleading squads don’t compete, society thinks of it merely as a physical activity. Even though cheerleaders’ main purpose is to support other athletic activities, cheer squads whom compete, follow all physical criteria to be considered a sport. Cheerleaders put forth an incredible amount of determination. They practice tirelessly to show off their skills, with little or no recognition for their efforts. Cheerleading is a sport because it requires physical fitness, skill, dedication, and stamina. Cheerleading should be considered a sport globally.
Bent forward over the length of a bench, placing your left knee and left hand on the bench for support while holding a dumbbell in your right hand with your palm facing your body. The New York Times states that cheerleading is the fastest growing girls’ sport, yet more than half of Americans do not believe it is a sport. A sport is defined as “an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature” (dictionary.com). Cheerleading at a competitive level is physically demanding and requires team work to be the best. The misconception of cheerleaders being weak, nonathletic crowd entertainers makes people believe cheerleaders are not athletes and that cheerleading is just a hobby but cheerleaders that compete at a competitive level are in fact athletes because it meets the standards of what a sport is, which includes rules and regulations, and overcoming air resistance.

A standing broad jump is a jump for distance from a standing position. It can be divided into four temporal phases: countermovement, propulsion, flight, and landing. In the countermovement phase, the subject squats to load up and extends the shoulders and the arms. In the propulsion phase, the goal is to generate enough force to propel the body forward. The person must stand erect in full extension of the trunk, hips, and knees. Then, the person flexes at the hip and the knee, which results with the trunk being rotated in a forward direction. Next, the arms become slightly flexed to hyperextension, to full flexion. Prior to the flight phase, the body goes into full extension. The flight phase begins as soon as the feet have left the ground. During this phase, the body stays in full extension or can become hyperextended. Towards the end of the flight phase, the trunk rotates forward in an anterior direction along with minor hip and knee flexion just before landing. During the landing phase, the knees and the hips are in maximum flexion and forward rotation of the trunk. There is also arm movement by moving both arms in the vertical direction to improve jumping distance. At the onset of the jump, the arm swings forward and during landing, they swing back and forth.
Well then, Basketball and football aren’t sports either if cheerleading is not a sport. There is no solid definition for a sport, but cheer meets all the given criteria for a sport. Just like any other sport, cheer is a danger with stunting, flips, tumbling - all without padding or anything protective besides a blue mat. Cheer is so much more than being smiley, happy, clappy, and cheery. Cheerleading is just as much a sport as any other sport, It is the most physically challenging, and best sport out there.
Competitive Cheer is rapidly growing in popularity throughout the United States. Cheerleading isn’t always considered a sport, but Competitive Cheer should be. Just like athletes in any other sport, members of Competitive Cheer squads clock many hours of intense training and often endure serious injuries. Two years ago when I first started competitive cheerleading, I was very nervous and shy. It was my first year cheering, and I knew no one on my team and had no clue how to do any of the skills we were being asked to do. When doing these jumps the cheerleader jumps high up into the air bringing both legs up and out simultaneously in a specific shape or form, while pointing the toes. Gripping the ball and proper footwork are important for one to succeed with the jump shot. When receiving the ball, catch the ball in the triple threat position, where one is ready to either shoot, pass, or drive and the knees bent with feet shoulder width apart. Once the ball is in the hand, one must have the correct grip on the ball. The shooting hand acts as a platform and is under the ball. The other hand is used to balance the ball and should be on the side of the ball. One thing shooters must make sure they do is that they are square to the basket meaning that their shoulder should squared up to the hoop. Once ready to shot, the shooter should spring off the floor using both legs to provide sufficient power and making sure not to drift backwards or sideways. The shooter needs to go straight up, or slightly forward for longer shots, and shoot the ball just before he reaches the height of his jump, especially on outside shots, where players need the extra power of the upward force from the jump. On short shots in the paint, the player should shoot from the top of his jump. This will allow him shoot over a defensive player. When going up for the shot, the shooting arm forms an "L" with the elbow pointing toward the hoop, and the forearm vertical, with the ball up over his head. In the shooting process, one should focus on either the back of the rim or the front, not the flight of the ball. As the shoot comes off, the elbow should fully extend while keeping the elbow in. The player does not want to fall short of extending otherwise the shot will be short.
Keep an equal distribution of weight between the front of the foot and the heel. The flexibility of the hip and ankle are important for the proficiency and safety of this workout. It is recommended to inhale as you crouch down and exhale as you rise.
Many people have something in their life that they consider themselves to be exceptional or reasonably competent at. The skill can vary from something such as memorizing, cooking, singing, or even participating in a sport. For me, the sport that I am reasonably competent at would be cheerleading. One of the greatest debates amongst topics such as those mentioned is whether the skills are acquired by nurture, which is a person’s experience, or nature, which is a person’s genes. For cheerleading, I would say that the skills are acquired by both nature and nurture. One is just as essential as the other when it comes to a sport such as this.
