My favorite genre of television is Science Fiction and Horror, Specifically the Netflix Original Stranger Things. The show focuses on the investigation of a missing boy along with many supernatural events around the small town of Hawkins, such as an appearance of a telekinetic girl. Stranger Things is my favorite television show because of the cast, characters, and mystery that draws me in and keeps me guessing which direction the show will go. Ultimately, I watch Stranger things because I enjoy the thrill and the supernatural aspects of the show. The story begins in a small town in Hawkins Indiana with a “Monster” also known as the Demogorgon, a predatory creature that escapes from an alternate dimension known as “The upside Down,” who wreaks …show more content…
It brings in various nostalgic reminiscence of other Sci-Fi thrillers from the 1980's. The Show has similarities to other shows and movies in the genre such as X-Files, and allows the guarantee of a certain audience. Eleven, the young girl from the laboratory, was experimented on to be used as defense against Russians; this plays tribute to popular show The X-files. Bringing in the similarities from other popular Science Fiction shows helps to draw in an audience that grew up watching similar television shows and movies [in the past?] and in turn guarantees an audience. The show, although primarily Science Fiction, can appeal to the masses. In conclusion, Stranger Things represents all things good in Science Fiction. The show offers many nostalgic references to popular Science fiction television shows and Movies from the past. The cast presents personal touches that allows viewers to relate, although the show is fictional. Stranger Things is my favorite show because it has an impeccable story line that was very well written and characters that make the story come to life. If you enjoy Mystery, Horror, and Science fiction, you will certainly enjoy this
In the book Friday Night Lights by author H.G Bissinger, there are various themes circulating around, However, the theme of racism overwhelms the majority and provides sufficient insight into the social hierarchy and social structure of the town of Odessa, Texas. The book overlooks a group of high school students dedicated to playing football and their struggle with identity, culture, and race. Race not only affects social problems within the book but also psychological, economic and political. Friday Night Lights compares the tensions between the black and white players and the community as a whole, who idolize the game, proving that a single high school football team can shape an entire town. Bissinger uses the racism
The film Friday Night Lights, directed by Peter Berg explains a story about a small town in Odessa, Texas that is obsessed to their high school football team (Permian Panthers) to the point where it’s strange. Boobie Miles (Derek Luke) is an cocky, star tailback who tore his ACL in the first game of the season and everyone in the town just became hopeless cause their star isn’t playing for a long time. The townspeople have to now rely on the new coach Gary Gaines (Billy Bob Thornton), to motivate the other team members to be able to respect, step up their game, and improve quickly. During this process, racism has made it harder to have a success and be happy and the team has to overcome them as a family.
Engaging conflicts and an easy to follow introduction made Pilot a very fun and enjoyable episode. Four reasons this first part of Freaks and Geeks was captivating includes showing conflict in the form of bullying towards special needs children, outside conflict having an impact on school behavior, introduction of characters by grouping, and introduction of characters by individuality. Therefore, a good movie is composed of encapturing problems and a movie outline that is understandable to the
Stephen king is one of the greatest authors of his generation. He has written some of the best books that I have ever read; as well as many others that I have not read. Just some that I have read is The Shinning, Carrie and IT. However, that is nowhere close to the number of books that he has written. He has also written great books like Dark Tower, and Pet Cemetery. Stephen King book do not appeal to all people. If his books do not appeal to you, and you have never read one you should give it a try. All of his books are very well written and have great story behind them.
People enjoy immersing themselves in fictional stories, whether that be through books, plays, or movies. No two movies are exactly the same keeping people watching more and more of them. Even though the movies may be very different, each story in a specific genre includes the same conventions, constituting them as part of that genre. Horror movies are filled with darkness, suspense, and anticipation. These conventions keep the audience on the edge of their seat wondering what is going to happen next.
I think that mystery stories are so popular with people today, and with the last couple of generations because they are so intriguing. The author tries to give the story an element of surprise and also put twists in the tails to keep the reader guessing. Rather than just watching a film it allows the reader to build up their own imagination and interpret the story in their own way. The author will also try to integrate a ghost or spirit into the story, whether it be physically there or just psychologically, this gives the sense of mystery and usually results in the protagonist of the story dying. During the Victorian era mystery stories were especially popular, this was due to television and cinema not being in existence, so people had enliven themselves in other ways, in this case with books. In Victorian times religion was cogent and people believed in God more than people today, this meant that people thought what happen in mystery stories was very plausible. However with the advancement of science, people regard mystery stories as fully fictional, conversely some individuals and groups do still believe in the existence of ghosts and spirits.
Horror is a genre filled with thrills and scares. There are very few good horror stories. This is because most are cheesy and people know what is going to happen which takes away the thrill and suspense. “Tell-Tale Heart” Edgar Allan Poe and “The Monkey’s Paw” W.W. Jacobs both have cause and effect relationships with a feeling of suspense.
There are many different forms of horror work’s such as films, books, cosplay (costume play) and photography. Horror can be explained as something that brings an extreme sensation of fear, disgust, or terror. Throughout the whole movie these elements help each other out to make the movie a great movie and fall in the horror genre. Each element helps each other by making the next scene better than the one before. It has the storyline come to live, and having people thinking what can happen next or who has the power in the movie. By seeing this movie it can make someone feel complete and satisfied for a long
There were several moments in Stephen King’s life that inspired many of his best- selling books. The comics and books he read as a child influenced the genre of his writing. Places he worked became settings for his books. His belief of supernatural and the paranormal influenced his books and TV shows. His mom, his wife, and several editors who had either rejected or accepted his work were also influential. Without these influences the world wouldn’t have the
In Stephen King’s paper Why We Crave Horror Movies, he describes three reasons why people adore horror films. He first explains that some want to prove one is not afraid; that he/she can conquer any fear. Secondly, Stephen
On a cold and snowy February afternoon last year, I sat down in my living room and decided to watch a movie. The movie of choice was Good Will Hunting. It popped up on my queue and I had not read any reviews, so I was certainly not expecting to have a deep, philosophical look at my life afterwards. Good Will Hunting is riddled with life lessons. After the movie, I considered what Will learned and tried to apply it to my own life.
Horror films are designed to frighten the audience and engage them in their worst fears, while captivating and entertaining at the same time. Horror films often center on the darker side of life, on what is forbidden and strange. These films play with society’s fears, its nightmare’s and vulnerability, the terror of the unknown, the fear of death, the loss of identity, and the fear of sexuality. Horror films are generally set in spooky old mansions, fog-ridden areas, or dark locales with unknown human, supernatural or grotesque creatures lurking about. These creatures can range from vampires, madmen, devils, unfriendly ghosts, monsters, mad scientists, demons, zombies, evil spirits, satanic villains, the possessed, werewolves and freaks to the unseen and even the mere presence of evil.
Suspense is the feeling that you don’t know what's gonna happen next. You are on the edge of your seat ready for something about to happen, but you just don’t know what is about to happen. It has kept audiences coming back to the theaters for a long time. It makes a scene more entertaining, impactful, and it makes the audience anxious, and excited to see what comes next. Plus, you can put suspense in any genre of movie. Horror, Mystery, Crime, Whodunits, Romantic, Comedy and many others. The TV show “Stranger Things”, it’s opener is a fantastic example of suspense. It contains foreshadowing, mystery, dilemma, and mood. In the beginning, it has someone running away from something that is chasing him in a lab, he runs into an elevator thinking
