In his piece “The Storm” Elijah Paschelke reflects upon his 7 months in solitary confinement. He states that he “will never see the world the way I did before,” and then continues “I will never not see it the way I did before.” This statement suggests that he used to not notice the world around him, hence “not seeing”. He vows that he will never live the way that he did before because his time in prison has made him more appreciative of the smaller things in life.
Roman and Greek mythology are filled with multiple interpretations of how the creator, be it the gods or nature, contributed to the birth of the world. These stories draw the backgrounds of the gods and goddesses that govern much of classical mythology. Ovid’s Metamorphoses and Hesiod’s Theogony are two pieces of work that account for how our universe came to be. A comparison of Theogony with Metamorphoses reveals that Hesiod’s creation story portrays the deities as omnipresent, powerful role whose actions triggered the beginning of the universe whereas in Metamorphoses, the deities do not play a significant role; rather the humans are center of the creation. The similarities and differences are evident in the construction of the universe, ages of man, and the creation of men and women on earth.
In Kate Chopin’s “The Storm”, sin happens to make a bond stronger than before. The story illustrates a couple who seems to be similar to the nature surrounding them. Both Calixta and Bobinôt happen to be going through a stormy period in their marriage. Although they are going through this turbulent period, Bobinôt’s actions display his imperfect but unconditional love for his wife. Bobinôt may not be the husband Calixta dreams of but throughout the story he illustrates that it does not matter what happens, the storm will pass and he will love her no matter what.
The ancient underworld ruler stood upright and commenced, ‘the time is finally here. With my blood, I sacrifice, let this fight begin!’
“The Storm” may be interpreted as a condemnation of societal constraints upon feminine sexuality. As Calixta “unfastened her white sacque at the throat” she was taking off chains of oppression of her sexuality. When Calixta “nervously began to gather up from the floor the lengths of a cotton sheet which she had been sewing” she is putting her duties away for pleasure and is finally going to fulfill her birthright for passionate sex. In “The Storm” Calixta is a shameless married woman who “lifted her pretty chin in the air and laughed aloud” after committing an adulteress act. Kate Chopin had a unique style of writing for her time.

The short story “The Storm” by Kate Chopin, deals with the subject of adultery. The story takes place in the early 1900’s. There are two main characters, Calixta (the wife) and Alcee (the former lover). Alcee must take refuge from a passing storm in Calixta’s house, while he is there the two end up making love while Calixta’s husband and son have to wait out the storm at the local store. By doing this Chopin implies the theme that is, adultery is natural and does not necessarily have negative consequences. Through out the story the constant changing of imagery plays a great role in the development of characters and their ability to demonstrate the theme.
With concern over global warming growing, people are starting to turn a more serious eye toward cleaner sources of energy. Instead of solar power making a comeback as the ideal form, we are seeing a growth in the use of wind power. Wind farms are beginning to crop up all around the country. This new trend has gathered significant attention. Questions are being raised concerning the effects wind farms may have, from critics and supporters alike. Michelle Nijhuis, in the article “Selling the Wind” discusses the arguments on behalf of and in opposition to the increasing use of wind power, addressing what the consequences may be on the United States.
being more powerful, defeated the Titans but since they could not kill the Titans, they punished them in their own way. Atlas, a very strong Titan, was forced to stand on the edge of Gaea, the earth.

Cheating is a destructive act that periodically results in a termination of a relationship. In this case, Kate Chopin’s short story “The Storm” features a symbolic storm which forces a passionate and married woman in encountering her past love. She is left in an extraordinary situation which could potentially terminate her relationship with her family. The storm functions as a mean to an end, as it deliberately build the situation to set a tension between the two protagonists. Also, as the tension grows, both characters succumb to their overwhelming desire for each other, and thus resulting in an act of passion. The departing of the storm reflects the implicit scheme of itself in the incident. Furthermore, the storm operates as imagery and foreshadowing to represent the sexual tension of the two characters. The raging storm serves as the key symbolic element in relation to the two unfaithful characters, namely Calixta and Alcée, in their act of lovemaking.
Leading to the overthrow of the great ruler known as Cronus("The myths of Poseidon, God of the sea"), the battle of Titanomony. They released three cyclopes from the pit of the underworld and to help aid them in the war.The cyclopes returned a favor to them by granting Zeus’ power of lightning, the “invincibility helmet” of Hades and most importantly the trident of Poseidon. The three pronged weapon gave Poseidon the powers need to defeat Cronus and the Titans. Using the powers given to them by the cyclopes eventually overthrowing his powerful father ,Cronus, with the help of his brothers Zeus and Hades in the battle of Titanomony. The battle resulted in the Titans and the monster of the underworld ,Typon, getting sent into the “underworld” known as “Tartarus”.By defeating Cronus they split their power into three. Zeus getting the power to rule the sky and Earth. Then Hades got the privilege to rule the area known as the "underworld" .The third and final area split up between Zeus, Poseidon and Hades was ruling of the sea .("The myths of Poseidon, God of the sea"). What elements are needed to create a good short story? As John Dufrense quoted "A good story has a visionary quality, a personal voice, a signature gesture(1969). The elements used should be used so strongly that it pulls you in; forcing you to connect to the people in the story. Not every story is written well enough to be capable of doing this. This also creates a connection with the reader; leaving some type of effect or impacting the reader along with the characters’ lives. Although there are many elements in writing but one of the greatest things of writing is the ability to make the reader empathize with the characters. This goes beyond than just a connection with the characters; when the reader is able to apprehend with the characters he or she is truly relating and reaching out to them. The author has accomplished something truly special when the reader has the ability to feel the agony that a character is feeling.
The Storm The title of this story suggests a metaphorical connection between the storm outside and the storm of emotions going on in the individuals Calixta and Alcee. The intensity of their sexual act inside the house follows the pattern of the storm outside. Their passion climaxes and diminishes with the storm. They are left replenished and fresh just like nature.
We stood imperially on the summit of this wondrous peak. We had conquered the mighty North face of the Eiger, the most treacherous ascent in the Alps. Daniel Anker and I sat astonished on the summit grinning insanely at each other, unable to fathom words to describe our exultation.
