The Creation of Frames and Rendering The evolution of animation is a topic I passionately connect to. I have enjoyed animation ever since I was a child, and it provides a comforting feeling to me. Stop-motion animation uses methods that are tedious and time-consuming, while computer animation is less technical and costly. Another way of distinguishing the two forms of animation is physical vs. virtual; traditional animation uses physical materials and activities, while computer animation uses virtual elements in a digital space. Although computer animation grosses more at the box office; stop-motion animation is a medium that often goes underappreciated, requires hard work and dedication, and is immensely original. The highest grossing stop-motion film is Chicken Run, which earned about 225 million on a 42 million dollar budget (“Understanding the Art of Stop Motion”). Furthermore, critics state that the only reason companies will use the method of stop-motion is because of its price, which is much cheaper. However, that is not the only reason; stop-motion is an artistic choice that has become unique in the current animated film market. Therefore, this makes stop-motion features stand out, as well as entertaining in its storytelling.
