Stone Cold - Essay Setting How the social setting has an effect on Links life as a homeless Links dad left the family for an younger woman. Link loved his dad, even though his dad could be a bastard. On p.3 L.16-18 it says “I suppose Dad must’ve been a bit of a bastard in his way, but at least he wasn’t a boozer. This shows that even though he knew what his dad was, he still support him in proportion to Vincent. In a young age Link and Carole have to take care of themselves, because their mother desert them. “She was always there when you needed her and I think she loved us”.(P.4 L. 21-22) If we look at the verbs they are in the past tense, so Link does not think that she loves them anymore which is a desertion. Links past with his mom and Vincent mean a lot to the story, because they let him down and let him grow up on his own. This is also one of reasons why Link became homeless, and he wouldn’t have survived if he had not take care of himself before. He wants to build up a new identity and he wants to be the real hero, who thinks he is helping his country. But not only that, he is a person who need people around him. His past can involve missing love and the acceptance of being good enough. That’s why he gets a cat and make his own kind of army with the dead homeless people. He knows that no one can know anything about it, but he gets an inner confirmation of doing something good. He wants to be the leader of something, that is why he do what he does. “ I have three recruits now” “Naturally, I’ve arranged them the Army way - tallest on the left, shortest on the right and they look quite smart - especially now that I’ve cut their hair.” This shows us that he has the control and he decide what is going to happen with them, which make him the leader of his new army, that are supposed to assist his
