Opening Statement: Leadership is one of the most important factors that can contribute to a successful organization. The individuals who are placed in the major decision making positions have the opportunity to drive the direction of the company in which they work. This is a vital factor in certain industries such as the technology world where forward-thinking ideas are needed to stay ahead of the curve. Steve Jobs stands out as a prime example of a leader who helped the shape the technology world and his influence is still being felt within Apple and beyond.

“Simply put, Steve Jobs will be remembered for a handful of remarkable strengths that he leveraged. These strengths were so profound they completely overshadowed his failings” (Zenger, 2013).
Additional Information: That is high praise for a leader who helped develop such industry changing products as the Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod. The piece by Zenger comments on the strengths and weaknesses that Jobs had in his position, but also his ability to use his strengths to overpower his weaknesses.
Supporting Statement 2: “Let’s be very clear: if Jobs had not possessed the remarkable strengths we have noted, these behaviors would have capsized him early in his career, but strengths eclipse shortcomings” (Zenger, 2013).

However, the overall tone brings light to the idea that perhaps Jobs, and other leaders, succeed because everyone knew they were not the nicest thus respected them more in business dealings. Henson goes on to point out many of the “shortcomings” of Jobs’s personality that carried over into his business life, but he does not condemn Steve for the way he acted. Instead, he uses Jobs as an example as to how different leadership styles have a time and place within the workplace.
Supporting Statement 2: He goes on to explain the even with these faults, Jobs still excelled in areas in which all leaders should. “I believe that he had at least three qualities that great executive leaders have: a clear vision, a passion for the company and its people, and an ability to inspire trust” (Henson, 2014).
Closing: Any leader who expects to have an impact on their organization needs to have these three and other ideals pushing them towards this goal.
