Stereotyping in the Media

The world today has become quite a diverse place. People of any color, race, or ethnicity, can go to the same school, restaurant, bathroom, and even date one another. The world is constantly changing and learning from its diverse inhabitants, so why hasn’t¬¬¬¬ the media been up to speed with the rest of the world? Race has increasingly become this social concept that the media has embraced and ran with. Inspiring millions, the media constantly transforms assumptions about particular groups of people into “realities.” (Media Stereotyping) The Media often inadequately represents minorities in television shows or movies, which most of the time are demeaning to that particular race or ethnicity. This inferiority put on the shoulders of colored people has transformed into an even greater problem then just being out casted by the world. The world has begun to build up, mostly false, ideas and interpretations of people which are called stereotypes. The world is often confused with the idea of embracing the stereotypes people have fabricated, compared to the diverseness of its inhabitants. As the Media becomes more involved in the stereotyping going on in the world today, they not only instigate unnecessary situations but also put these social concepts into the brains of millions. Stereotyping has caused this violent and tensioned world on lives in today.

Media took advantage of this social concept people call racism, and has caused more than hurt feelings. The color made Pleasantville a lot more diverse but the people who were still black and white despised the changed and segregated the “color people.” However the color people were just like them until they began to learn and break the routines of Pleasantville, which caused them to be unique. Their unique personalities made them colorful. The people of Pleasantville who refused the change came around fast when they turning into color as well, which leads one to think is it the color they are afraid of or is it the idea of change? People play a big role in this racism problem people continue to face daily. People instigate situations and gang up to feel superior to minorities and further more encourage whites to make colored people feel inferior duh to the change the diversity has brought upon the world.
