Stereotyping is used in our everyday life in things such as advertisements, movies, books, magazines, and other types of entertainment. It is pointed out to be negative and causing too many problems, but it can be used to motivate us to act a certain way, or buy certain things. Stereotypes are the most useful way to influence people to change and better themselves. Our eyes are made to look and gather information, and our brain takes this information and uses it to judge. When we view things and have positive experiences, we tend to like them. When we have a bad experience, humans tend to not want to have a part in it. When people are afraid to be around blacks, statistically they are just being safe. According to the Canadian journal of criminology, 30% of all arrests are African Americans. If 30% of all arrests are African American, that means one out of every three people that get arrested are black. The Canadian Journal of Criminology also says 49% of violent crimes involved African Americans. This shows that all of the people that are afraid of blacks because of the stereotype are just trying to protect themselves. People are judged for being single parents, struggling to help their kids, but in reality being a single parent can be a good thing. Children that have both parents that work most of the time feel neglected and lonely which could lead to depression or acting out and rebellion later on in life. One of my family’s long times friends had this same exact problem. The family was in excellent financial shape because both parents worked. They had high level jobs working as doctors at the same hospital, but they never really made time for their children. The parents worked constantly away from home, and now the family is very dysfunctional. The children who are now adults never visit or talk to their parents. It shows that money is not everything, and that a stay at home mom is not just a suppressing stereotype it’s a beneficial tool to your children’s happiness and
