The concept of stereotype threat plays a very big role in today’s society as a whole. Claude Steele stresses the importance of it in his 2010 lecture at Columbia University. As a little background of Claude Steele, he is the 21st Provost of Columbia and is a psychology professor there as well. He’s also the author of Whistling Vivaldi, which discusses the idea of stereotype threat a little bit further. Before he moved to New York to work at Columbia, he did work at Stanford University to be surrounded by his daughter and her family. One point that he makes about stereotype threat is the fact that it has to do with identity and that it’s an identity contingency.
