Videos are made for many different reasons but in our modern society, the main reason people watch videos is to seek entertainment, to engage people and make it humorous the videos use humor techniques. Two videos which are deemed entertaining by a varied audience include Liza Koshy’s ‘Stealing Food?!? Grocery Shopping with Lizzza’ and Monty Python’s Flying Circus season 4 episode 2 ‘Self-defence against Fresh Fruit’ both these videos use the same visual, language and structural humor techniques. These techniques intertwined and overlapped help make and humorous and engaging video which is very entertaining.
These videos were both designed for the entertainment of others or the audience, however, many of the techniques they use rely on neither visual nor editing elements but speech. As the videos were almost utterly absurd they used many sight gags and slapstick or physical humor, both to humor, or engage the audience. Examples from ‘Shopping with Lizzza’ include where she dances with the food, suddenly changes facial expressions, tries to run away with alcohol or as she exits out the automated door, all of these examples of sight gags or physical humor were all situated around her. Which is also very different from some of the slapstick or physical humours in the ‘Self-defence against fresh fruit’ video as when someone got killed there was always a prop which was also a major part of evoking humour, although this was not always the case, for example, one of the sight gags, which used comic shelving and rule of three to be repeated, was where the instructor did his weird jump, almost like he was jumping sideways over a tall imaginary hurdle purely was focussed on him and no other
